Historia
Battleship Commander explores Lee's life from boyhood in Kentucky through his eventual service as commander of the fast battleships from 1942 to 1945. Said to be down to earth, modest, forgiving, friendly, and with a wry sense of humor, Lee eschewed the media and, to the extent possible, left administrative details to others.

Excellent book
Revisado: 09-17-24
I happened to see a YouTube video of the Savo Island battle and saw a recommendation for this book, so I ordered it. I'm a reader of action, mystery, scfi, and westerns so this book is out of my wheelhouse. I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be a page turner for me. Admiral Lee was an interesting man who has not received the recognition he deserves. Thank God we had Admirals like him and Spruance fighting on our side during the war. They were the workhorses while Admirals like Halsey who made major blunders during the war but knew how to grandstand got all the glory. Secondly, Walter Dixon does a great job as narrator.

In “the Trump satire we’ve been waiting for” (The Washington Post), award-winning and best-selling author of Thank You for Smoking delivers a hilarious and whipsmart fake memoir by Herb Nutterman - Donald Trump’s seventh chief of staff - who has written the ultimate tell-all about Trump and Russia.

Hard to satire
Revisado: 07-20-20
I listened to the entire book. The narrator, Gibson Frazier, did a good job. Too bad the author wrote the book before the coronavirus hit as its become the 500-lb gorilla of this campaign and is missing in this book. Also the main problem with the book for me is it's depressing. Trump is a hard to satirize. Satires are usually funny but its hard to find anything funny about Trump.

Historia
As President Trump’s national security advisor, John Bolton spent many of his 453 days in the room where it happened, and the facts speak for themselves. The result is one of the few White House memoirs to date by a top-level official. With almost daily access to the president, John Bolton has produced a precise rendering of his days in and around the Oval Office. What Bolton saw astonished him: a president for whom getting reelected was the only thing that mattered, even if it meant endangering or weakening the nation.

Tough Read
Revisado: 07-10-20
The book is a battle of two egos and I'm finding it hard to finish. John Bolton comes off as a person who never found a country he didn't want to bomb and the Trump he depicts is the person I thought he was, so there are no real surprises, just confirmations. John Petkoff does a great job narrating the book and I have no problems there. I guess my real problem with the book is I don't like either person and I find the book boring.

In Let Me Finish, Christie sets the record straight about his tenure as a corruption-fighting prosecutor and a Republican running a Democratic state, as well as what really happened on the 2016 campaign trail and inside Trump Tower.

Disappointed
Revisado: 02-06-19
I listened to an hour of the book and had to turn it off. A quick summary; "I am great, Bannon screwed me, Trump is a great President whose problems are the crooked people around him (my words)". It was a painful listen. I'm retired and have had enough of over inflated egos.

Enjoyable read
Revisado: 04-07-15
I'm basically a mystery and thriller reader with a few science fiction novels thrown in. This book sounded like a good read and I wasn't disappointed. The story line had me hooked from the first chapter. I usually listen to audio books when I drive or when I work around the house. Bottom line, my wife got more work out of me the last few days than she has for a month. I'll be waiting for Mr. Rottman's next book.

In 2000, Douglas Preston and his family moved to Florence, Italy, fulfilling a long-held dream. They put their children in Italian schools and settled into a 14th century farmhouse in the green hills of Florence, where they devoted themselves to living la dolce vita while Preston wrote his best-selling suspense novels. All that changed when he discovered that the lovely olive grove in front of their house had been the scene of a double-murder.

Amanda Knox
Revisado: 05-17-13
Anyone who plans on reading the Amanda Knox book,"Waiting to be Heard" needs to read Douglas Preston's Book first. I read them in reverse order. What an eye opener. Once you read this book and Amanda's there can be no doubt as to her innocence. Mr. Preston's book kept me out of circulation for three days. Every spare minute I found myself listening to this book. By itself it is a great listen but combine it with Amanda's and it's a must listen.

Historia
Amanda Knox spent four years in a foreign prison for a crime she did not commit. In the fall of 2007, the 20-year-old college coed left Seattle to study abroad in Italy, but her life was shattered when her roommate was murdered in their apartment. After a controversial trial, Amanda was convicted and imprisoned. But in 2011, an appeals court overturned the decision and vacated the murder charge. Free at last, she returned home to the U.S., where she has remained silent, until now.

Her side
Revisado: 05-04-13
I just finished Knox's book and was pleasantly surprised. Not only does the book do a credible job of presenting Amanda’s side, Amanda does a surprisingly credible job of narration. The only part of the book causing me a little irritation was her repeatedly referring to feces as “poop”. My daughters stopped referring to “poop” when they were 10 years old.
This is a story of an incredibly naïve American girl set adrift in a foreign country she claimed to know but really didn’t. While her flatmates clammed up and got lawyers she continued to “help” the Italian police without a lawyer’s protection. The Italian Police thought her actions strange when in fact they were the actions of typical American teen. The real evil here is the murderer of Kercher, Guede, and the two prosecutors Mignini and Comodi who cared more about “keeping face” than finding and convicting the real murderer.
Bottom line, Knox’s book is an excellent listen.

Don't listen to the negative narrator reviews
Revisado: 03-24-13
Please do not listen to the negative narrator reviews or you'll be missing a great book. I agree the narration by Thor Knai is poor but after about an hour you get used to him. In fact I found a couple of his accents pretty hilarious. At one time he comes out with an attempt at a Norweign accent that sounds like the Kentucky hills. The book is a great listen however and Jo Nesbo is at his best. The plot is typical Nesbo with twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end.

The Outlander Series
Revisado: 08-11-12
The first of the Outlander Series was written by Diana Gabaldon in the late 90's and for some reason I've never heard of it. It's a hard book to classify as its part historical novel, science fiction, and romance. I'll skip a summary of the plot because its available elsewhere on the audible site. I'm 65, male, retired (sort of), and normally read mysteries, science fiction, and thrillers. I purchased the first volume, Outlander, on a lark and became hooked. What a ride! The plot is great and Davina Porter is one of the best Narrators I've come across. Her voice is made for the main character, Claire Randel, and she does the switch from character to character seamlessly. I can't recommend this book more. Its a long listen but at the end you're looking for more.

During a houseboat vacation on the remote Lake of the Woods, a violent gale sweeps through unexpectedly, stranding Cork and his daughter, Jenny, on a devastated island where the wind has ushered in a force far darker and more deadly than any storm. Amid the wreckage, Cork and Jenny discover an old trapper’s cabin where they find the body of a teenage girl. She wasn’t killed by the storm, however; she’d been bound and tortured before she died. And from outside comes the soft wail of an infant, abandoned in the brush....

A good read
Revisado: 05-11-12
The character of Cork O'Conner tends to grow on you the more you read the series. By the time I read Northwest Angle, the last volume of the series, I was thursting for more. A change of narrator half way through the series was a bad idea. I had gotten used to David Chandler and when the switch was made to Buck Schirner I had a tough time getting used to his voice. I highly recommend this series.
