This might be Herbert’s best work!
Revisado: 06-20-23
I didn’t like this the first time but it really grew on my the second time listening. I believe that Herbert’s wife was less influential on this work compared to the others. And that’s too the only thing that made this one lack. This one more than the other has the weird descriptions of sexual encounters. It would have been better to have those more like a romance novel than a penthouse letters issue. The story however, was the best. Since the universe was really built and the readers were now almost exclusively the Herbert culties, Herbert could finally just build the story how he wanted. This may have some light spoiler content but it’s only things I would have rather been prepared with going into it. The other is that he gets really disruptive with food more than the other volumes. If anyone doesn’t get it, the last chapter it last full act are very descriptive on the philosophy that Herbert wanted to get at. So review that and enjoy!

Robert A. Johnson, best-selling author of He, She, We and other psychology classics, shares a lifetime of insights and experiences in this easy-to-listen-to explanation of psychological projection - seeing traits in others that are, in fact, our own. He masterfully reveals how each of us gives up our inner gold to those whom we idealize or are attracted to. Each one of us must learn the arduous task of “taking back” this gold as we move through life’s journey.

From the author of 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos comes a provocative hypothesis that explores the connection between what modern neuropsychology tells us about the brain and what rituals, myths, and religious stories have long narrated. A cutting-edge work that brings together neuropsychology, cognitive science, and Freudian and Jungian approaches to mythology and narrative, Maps of Meaning presents a rich theory that makes the wisdom and meaning of myth accessible to the critical modern mind.

A great psychologically eclectic approach to life!
Revisado: 11-07-19
Thing mainly brings together Jean Piaget’s constructivism. That’s massively important, especially with Jean Piaget’s work not translated into English too much, and the work that is, is largely considered to be only for children’s mental development.
I would largely sum it up that: Humans are information foragers 2nd, feelings foragers first. But need to go through the process of building mental models (equilibrated state) in order to find more feelings. Mainly we want a feeling of control, however maturity is a combination of yielding control while also making the most of the control we do have (think sail boat). Life often seems like a battle between the realities of taking control and yielding to the ordering principles that have always been at work.
This is very good as an audible but make sure you download the PDF, yet it’s fine to listen without. I think the visuals are helpful but they could be a little updated for clarity.
I do think they should break it up into smaller chapters for the audio version.
I do believe this is where the philosophical dialectic should be for this generation. It’s a tricky balancing act because we’re learning what we can’t know (a lot) but also that we can know more than enough to live good lives. The main thing we should know is, how to know! That’s the proper learning process and how to deal with life’s constant changes.
This work will become increasingly important for the next generation as well, because we’re changing the world faster than we can adapt to it.
Everyone must read, don’t be too intimidated and it’s okay if you split it up between other books.
This would definitely be worth making an abridged version but there are guides for it that help break it up and plenty of YouTube videos.

Becoming centered is priceless
Revisado: 10-02-19
I was pleasantly surprised how deep and expansive this book is. It is instantly one of my favorites and I go through a lot of audibles.
*spoilers*kinda
Ryan gentle wipes the readers face with the depths of the soul. He explored the shadow of Tiger Woods and others who have fallen from greatness but were able to get back to it. He also explores the greats like Churchill and we find what makes them great. The key is transformation from the inside out not the other way around.
He took some risk in this one speaking more of religion or at lease religious thinking and gently gets into what the mind body and soul are and how we can bear center the three as one.
I am not exaggerating when I say I recommend this book to everyone as one of the most important at least of our generation. The book simply shows what we are and how to be the best of that.

Do you remember when you had your first thought of corporate America and working there? A job of high importance came to mind, maybe even wearing a suit and working in a fancy office. The sad truth in the matter of this place is, although it has its perks and benefits, it has about as much politics and as many cliques as the high school cafeteria. When thinking about life after high school we always imagined that the real world wouldn't have as many barriers.

a horrible rip off from the real robert greene.
Revisado: 05-10-19
disgusting that audible allows this rip off. it's just a sting of platitudes. seriously made me sick listening to it. it might be okay if it wasn't so blatantly obvious he's trying to rip off fans of the amazing real Robert Greene. it comes up in goodle like it's another book by the legend himself. seriously need a way to stop rip offs like this.
