I might have liked this book better if I had read it. The narrator was awful in my opinion. She made Eleanor sound like a twelve year old. Too much mathematics to hold interest in the personal stories of the characters. I will be curious to hear what the other book club members thought when we discuss it soon.

Self absorbed, whiny entitled man child with his sad tale of poor me. It was cringeworthy and I only made it halfway.

I was not thrilled with the narrator for most of the book, but chose to ignore it because I really like these characters. As a resident of California I also find the subject matter Mr. Lescroart writes about interesting and well informed. There was one very tiny moment of dialogue that gave me the clue as to "who done it" and I was quite pleased to know I was correct! All in all an enjoyable listen.

I have "read" all of David Rosenfelt's books and they are all wonderful. Grover Gardner is Andy Carpenter. You can't miss on any of them!

I hope there are many more adventures of Andy Carpenter and his friends.

Good Listen

I liked John March and I thought the narrator was good overall, but he did tend to make some of his characters sound a little too much alike which then made the story line a little more difficult to follow.

I would listen again to this author to follow John March and see if he is a character that I would continue to care about.

Only 3 stars because I have nothing to compare it to.

This book is extremely well written and masterfully narrated. I have read this author's Sarum and London, and have the hard copy of this, but chose instead to listen to it. I am glad I did as it brought the history to life for me.

If any of you readers out there want more saga's of Ireland, I would encourage you to read Trinity and Redemption by Leon Uris. Audible....you should get both those for 5 star listening like the Prince's.

I am getting ready to listen to the Rebel's and know that it will be as enjoyable as this.

A wonderful listen, a great book.

I really enjoyed this book. The narrator was very good. It's a great addition to anyone's library for vacation books. It never dragged for me, and I look forward to another from this author.

Very Good Read

My first read of this author and I enjoyed it very much. It's not better than The Lion's Game which is one of my all time favorites, but it was close. The narrator did a great job with voices, although the main guy was my least favorite. I kept thinking "lose the Clint Eastwood act", but it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the book. The litmus test for me is if I would read it or tell my friends to read it. Absolutely this is on the read and enjoy list. A perfect vacation book.

History lesson at it's best

This was a great listen. It was not so different from growing up listening to the stories my father told us about his 4 years in the army and fighting in Europe during WWII. My kids have been fortunate enough to learn much of this from both their grandfather's perspective too.

The author was able to write the facts as those who lived it, saw it, and presented it in such a way as to make the reader understand what it was like to be there. All in story form which made it extremely well written.

I thought the narrator did an outstanding job with all the voices, so that I too was able to identify them as they spoke. He made it a story as well as a lesson in history. Especially with the ending and telling us how all of these men lived after the war.

I hope the author can take on the great war WWI with as much vigor as he has with the Rising Ride, because much of what happened there brought the world to this story.
