Meh
Revisado: 08-04-17
First let me say that I love the Brie series. They are some of my favorites. Hot and imaginative with some really fun scenes. I have been checking Audible regularly for another Brie series book, but was this book even written by the same author? The story line is thin, which is okay when there is a hotness factor to make up for it. But a thin storyline with even thinner eroticism and well. . . meh. And a long vanilla scene? Red Phoenix can write some of the hottest BDSM scenes, so what's with the long vanilla scene? We can get that anywhere. Red, I expected more from you. I'm so sad!

Bland, boring plot resolutions although nobody was kidnapped, which is a switch. I find the theme repetition tedious after a point. Did I hate it? No. Did I like it? Meh.

How did I miss that a religious faith book
Revisado: 01-17-17
The story started pretty interesting and gradually became more about the characters' religion and relationship with their god. That's probably a big selling point for many, and that's okay. For me, not so much. The plot is kind of interesting, but the heavy emphasis on religion "Let me tell you about my faith" and a visit from an angel from god is too off-putting. I wish the description had included that more clearly, which would have warned me off while likely selling more copies to those who want this type of book.

Historia
Judith Hampton was as beautiful as she was proud and loyal. Her dear Scottish friend from childhood was about to give birth, and Judith had promised to be at her side. But there was another reason for the journey from her bleak English home to the Highlands: to meet the father she had never known, the Laird Maclean. Nothing prepared her, however, for the sight of the Scottish barbarian who was to escort her into his land...Iain Maitland, laird of his clan, a man more powerfully compelling than any she had ever encountered.

The men sound like Popeye
Revisado: 05-19-16
What would have made The Secret better?
A narrator who could do a decent Scottish accent?
What was most disappointing about Julie Garwood’s story?
I can't even listen to this. Was hoping for a hot Scottish listen but the narrator sounds like she's channeling Popeye the Sailor Man.
Would you be willing to try another one of Susan Duerden’s performances?
If she's not attempting a Scottish accent . . .
Any additional comments?
Thank goodness Audible allows returns.

Before I met Smoke, I'd never been kissed - really kissed - by a man, let alone a biker sex god bent on taking my virginity and my heart. I got dragged into the deadly world of the Iron Horse MC by my crazy twin sister, who is engaged to the club's president, and my even crazier mom, who cares only about herself. Smoke has been assigned by the club to keep me safe even though he's everything of which I should be afraid.

Feeling conflicted about this one
Revisado: 11-18-15
Would you try another book from Ann Mayburn and/or Andy E. Ross and Stephanie Wyles ?
Oh sure.
Would you ever listen to anything by Ann Mayburn again?
Sure. Probably.
What about Andy E. Ross and Stephanie Wyles ’s performance did you like?
I thought the narration was quite good.
What would have made this romance irresistible?
I'm conflicted about this one. The narration was good and I liked the female character a lot -- she was a lot of fun. The male character, I dunno. Smoke did not strike me as being an especially strong character and seemed to be lacking in the Domly department. I'm probably just perv and these are my own preferences, but since you asked, I prefer a stronger Dom character who exerts more control both in and out of the bedroom. I also prefer more bdsm sex and less romantic sex, which doesn't do it for me. That would have made it irresistible to me. :)
I am going to listen to the second book; Perhaps the bdsm quotient will increase.
Any additional comments?
The plot was okay-ish. A bit bizarre and at time perhaps campy, but really, who read these things for the plot? I want to say the sex scenes were too short, but given the amount of cliched repetition in the dialog, drawing them out would have been painful. And so, I am conflicted: A strange plot (at times delightfully so -- especially when they visit Swan's parents), at least one interesting and unique character (that would be Swan) and some potentially hot sex scenes that were unfortunately ruined by the same unending cliches.

Meh
Revisado: 07-16-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
It's okay-ish. At some point the books become a little too predictable, which I guess is a plus for some, but I find it a little irritating. Maybe a little too saccharine and formulaic.
The sex scenes are embarrassingly bad -- and I find it weird that all the men so far use the same term of endearment -- "baby." Euw.
They've been pleasant easy summer reads, but I'm ready to move on now.
What could Robyn Carr have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
So far, all the women are small and the characteristics the men most respond to seem to be the smallness of each woman (her small tongue, her small hands, her small waist). C'mon. Can't they have other attractive qualities besides "small"?
I don't know that I'll continue any more in the series, but I'd like to see a larger woman find some love among the ex-Marines of Virgin River. Maybe it happens later, but I probably won't know
Which character – as performed by Therese Plummer – was your favorite?
I dunno. At some point all the male characters and all the female characters seem the same. I guess I like the Mel/Paige/Brie character. Therese Plummer did a good job, it's just that the characters all seemed alike.
Was Whispering Rock worth the listening time?
Sure. It was fun.

I began to despise the protagonist
Revisado: 04-26-11
The book had wonderful promise but became difficult to finish once I began to despise the protagonist. Why a slave family would stand by a white girl who brought them nothing but tragedy and misfortune is beyond me. Most frustratingly, Lavinia never grew as a character. I kept waiting for her to shed some of her naiveté, grow a pair, learn from past mistakes, gain some pluck and stop passively floating along.
Nope. She just stayed simple and sweet while repeating behaviors that held disasterous consequences for those she claimed to love. With friends (or family) like her, who needs enemies?

Well I'm trying to like it . . .
Revisado: 10-07-07
I so want to enjoy this story, but I am having a terrible time with the narrator's voice. Why oh why do they hire a guy with a city man's clipped, hurried speech to narrate the story of a country man who lives on his own timetable. Did they not read the book?
In addition, the way he tries to mimic a woman with a low country drawl is too painful for words.
This is the first time I haven't been able to get past the narration and just enjoy the book.
I'm so sad.
