The storytelling is smooth and you do not need to know the entire history of Dr. Gregory to appreciate this story. His past is nicely woven into the story line.. The glimpse into the background of each character is introduced at the appropriate point and is clear. The interactions between the characters as colleagues can be found in many breakrooms. The opening prose from Othello represents the heart of the story. The villains and the "good guys" have some obsession that forces their actions. The arrogance and ego created circumstances that the victims have a vengeful desire to humiliate and punish. In the author's note section, she mentions the genesis of this story was the METOO movement. Yes, it did highlight the hubris of those in control. Of course, that movement morphed into what it was trying to fight. The author's idea of creating the main characters as high profile actors because they tend to get the most publicity is the truth. Unfortunately, justice also follows high-profile elites. It's interesting this was released in 2022. We've seen mania on all levels of society mainly based on fear. "Everyone loves a witch hunt as long as it's someone else's witch being hunted"- Walter Kirn
The narration by Richard Armitage is outstanding. Distinctive voices and passion!

The stories are not a collection of clichés. The kindness is subtle and deeper. The stories range from everyday reality to the realm of fantasy. The spectrum of the human condition. The listener's experience will dictate the emotions generated by each story. The stories unveil the invisible, misunderstood, ego, and indignity created when kindness is not applied to another or themselves. The stories show the variation in kindness applying to each condition. 50 stories(apology if my addition is incorrect) with great narration. I was drawn to this audio book because of L.J. Ross and Richard Armitage who narrated 6 of the stories(well done as usual) . Enjoyed every story/narration. One of RA's narratives was close to home for me,& perhaps him-Unforgettable; going thru parents' paperwork/clothes creates many memories. Another that hit home is Infinity and Beyond-the inner thoughts of this child compared to what was heard reminded me of my caregiving days with my Mom. I knew she tried to communicate even though the words couldn't come out. Broke my heart. Life experiences. I did have a laugh when a character in "Counting the Cost" was a curmudgeon called Mr. Armitage!

An intruder is the most unnerving because it violates your privacy. When it involves your own home, the sanctity and security diminishes even when the violator is caught. This feeling travels with you like a dark shadow. Joy Ellis describes the feeling and helplessness beautifully. The plus and minus of the human nature is presented so well with various characters. More insight to Evans was appreciated. Of course Jackman and Evans interactions are what I relish. The ending is cheeky! Richard Armitage narration! Gold.

It's a great story. Mr. Weir science fiction isn't campy. He doesn't dumb down the dialogue or concepts and manages to include the humanity central to all great stories. I enjoyed the flashbacks and the different perspective relative to space travel. The narrator is excellent.

What a gem! I missed the first announcement of this release, and I am happy I came upon it. Perhaps this story was Kismet because I just finished "They Disappeared" the 7th installment of the Jackman and Evans series. Not only did I get more detail about the character Stella that appears in several of Joy Ellis's stories, it was a cathartic experience. Depending on the current state of the listener, the story touches many dilemmas someone may experience in their life. It did for me. Joy Ellis is a master of describing the human condition. Many of the ambient surroundings and analogies are beautifully described. The narrator was a storyteller. The experience was that of someone reading you a story. A perfect description is that of the grandfather telling a story to his grandson in the Princess Bride. I truly enjoyed it!

Another good story by Joy Ellis. She interweaves the human condition so well with the major crime. This story gives a deeper look into one of the main characters, and how the crime in focus reflects an event in her past. The update on the main characters is like reading a letter from a family member. The insight to two characters heart breaks and the prospect of moving forward in life is an added bonus. Hope future books expand on these characters and mainly that between Jackman & Evans. Richard Armitage voices are always amazing.

Entertaining story by LJ Ross. The Alexander Gregory character is complex and endearing. His and the other characters' troubled souls are well-developed along with an American Crime Story. It's interesting how much mind reading occurs when trying to decide a person's intention. All fall in that trap at times, it is getting out of it that counts. Richard Armitage as usual does a fantastic job with the voices. He voiced Alexander Gregory and I can imagine him as the character, and loved his colleague's accent as well. The voices of several American characters are well done.

These Chekhov short stories have the dueling themes of angst and freedom. The characters struggle to balance both themes. Both socially(like a Solzhenitsyn commentary on the Soviets preferring insane asylums as imprisonment for dissident intellectuals),and humanly disturbing. Some of these themes are relevant to the current social events. Richard Armitage narration and voices are remarkable. His voices add to the richness and impact of the stories. The two stories has Richard Armitage sing a few words in a sweet and delicate voice.

One of the strangest crime stories. It is a good story .The detectives confused with each fact revealed and didn't understand the motive or the players involved. The hearts of the characters between the police officers, victims, and villains suffered with love, heartbreak, and being played. The genesis of the crimes was the broken heart and mind. Joy Ellis has another great story, and the narrator,I think different that Book 1, was much better in this audio book.

This is a new story line for me in the Joy Ellis collection. The crimes investigated are background to the human tragedies that emerge. Did not figure this story out until the end. Joy Ellis is a great story-teller. The narrator is okay;
