Historia
Miranda July’s second novel confirms the brilliance of her unique approach to fiction. With July’s wry voice, perfect comic timing, unabashed curiosity about human intimacy, and palpable delight in pushing boundaries, All Fours tells the story of one woman’s quest for a new kind of freedom. Part absurd entertainment, part tender reinvention of the sexual, romantic, and domestic life of a forty-five-year-old female artist, All Fours transcends expectation while excavating our beliefs about life lived as a woman.

Gross & for normies
Revisado: 06-03-24
A horrifying perception of middle age. The narration voice was thick and scratchy, the sexual activity was both childish and depressing. Really hated this book but it’s well written, that’s the real problem.

Historia
Summer is coming to a close on the East End of Long Island, and Alex is no longer welcome. A misstep at a dinner party, and the older man she’s been staying with dismisses her with a ride to the train station and a ticket back to the city. With few resources and a waterlogged phone, but gifted with an ability to navigate the desires of others, Alex stays on Long Island and drifts like a ghost through the hedged lanes, gated driveways, and sun-blasted dunes of a rarefied world that is, at first, closed to her.

The ending did not pay off
Revisado: 12-29-23
So much to like, but the ending… b, please. The whole book is leading to a particular event, then the event begins and the book ends. Don’t do this to me. My life is precious.

Historia
Julia Fox is famous for many things: her captivating acting, such as her breakout role in the film Uncut Gems; her trendsetting style, including bleached eyebrows, exaggerated eyeshadow, and cutout dresses; her mastery of social media, where she entertains and educates her millions of followers. But all these share the trait for which she is most famous: unabashedly and unapologetically being herself. This commitment to authenticity has never been more on display than in Down the Drain. With writing that is both eloquent and accessible, Fox recounts her turbulent path to cultural supremacy.

Very engaging. Loved. Fearless, matter-of-fact, and tender. Looking forward to part 2 in a few more revolutions!

Historia
Back in 2004, The Daydreams had it all: a cast of innocent-seeming teenagers acting and singing their hearts out, amazing ratings, and a will-they-or-won’t-they romance that steamed up fan fiction forums. Then, during the live season two finale, it all imploded, leaving everyone scrambling to understand why. Afterward, the four stars went down very different paths. Now the fans are demanding a reunion special. The stars all have private reasons to come back. But as they tentatively rediscover the magic of the original show, old secrets threaten to resurface

Writing is hard
Revisado: 06-18-23
And this writer did write a book, so that’s an accomplishment. Performance was tedious. Is it too late to return?

Historia
Alexandra Auder’s life began at the Chelsea Hotel—New York City’s infamous bohemian hangout—when her mother, Viva, a longtime resident of the hotel and one of Andy Warhol’s superstars, went into labor in the lobby. These first moments of Alexandra’s life, documented by her filmmaker father, Michel Auder, portended the whirlwind childhood and teen years that she would go on to have. At the center of it all is Viva: a glamorous, larger-than-life woman with mercurial moods.

Revisado: 05-28-23
Sexy Unique Book.
Hilarious comeuppance for Vincent Gallo. Died laughing. Made me ache for girls & mothers everywhere. I wish she’d talked about her yoga journey, I know she has stuff to say! Next book hopefully!

Historia
The women of the iconic '80s band the Go-Go’s will always be remembered as they appeared on the back of their debut record: sunny, smiling, each soaking in her own private bubble bath with chocolates and champagne. The photo is a perfect tribute to the fun, irreverent brand of pop music that the Go-Go’s created, but it also conceals the trials and secret demons that the group—and, in particular, Belinda Carlisle—struggled with.

Weirdly Unlikeable
Revisado: 04-24-22
Hmmmm. Wanted to enjoy this but found it kinda dull and basic. The drug abuse is very boring, and the eventual discovery of kundalini yoga by way of recovery is very LA cringe.
