Do "In God We Trust", the Declaration of Independence, and other historical "evidence" prove that America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles? Are the Ten Commandments the basis for American law? A constitutional attorney dives into the debate about religion's role in America's founding.

The Founding of America Without the Myths
Revisado: 11-18-19
This is a well researched book that explains how and why the United States ended up with a secular government established for and by "We the People" all the while debunking the myth that our founding was in some way based on "Christian" principles. It's also a really good history lesson on the early settlers up through the founding era and as such should be taught in every high school in America.

Historia
Christianity didn't have to become the dominant religion in the West. It easily could have remained a sect of Judaism fated to have the historical importance of the Sadducees or the Essenes. In The Triumph of Christianity, Bart Ehrman, a master explainer of Christian history, texts, and traditions, shows how a religion whose first believers were 20 or so illiterate day laborers in a remote part of the empire became the official religion of Rome, converting some 30 million people in just four centuries.

In Depth Indroduction to the First Centuries
Revisado: 07-26-18
As a overview of the first several centuries of Christianity it is very enlightening in showing how and why the religion grew. It does not defend Christianity in any way, just tells the story of it's rise over the religions and Gods of the early Roman empire. I would liked to have heard more about the Christian adoption of 'pagan' holidays, but most of those may have happened beyond the time frame of this book.
Don't look for any apologetics or defense of Christianity, it's not here - this is just a history of its early growth.
