Historia
Twenty years ago, Brandon Taylor was thought to be just another teen boy who ended his life too soon. That's what almost everyone in Tibbehah County, Mississippi, said after his body and hunting rifle were found in the Big Woods. Now two New York-based reporters show up asking Sheriff Quinn Colson questions about the Taylor case. What happened to the evidence? Where are the missing files? Who really killed Brandon?

Shocking Ending
Revisado: 08-05-21
Ace Atkins consistently delivers a good story in each installment of the Quinn Colson series. The Shameless is no exception. In this book Quinn works to solve a twenty-year-old cold case of the death/suicide of a fifteen-year-old former classmate who just happened to be a former beau of his wife Maggie. She, along with his family, believes he was murdered and that there is a conspiracy keeping the truth from coming out.
As Quinn investigates this case, he is thwarted at every turn by corrupt politicians, known criminals, the local madam and even two New York podcast journalists who stick their noses in his business. This time around his wife, sister Cady and Lillie are all on board to assist in solving the case. I was totally captivated by this story from start to explosive finish and this is probably my favorite so far. I listened to this on audiobook via Audible, the first in the nine-book series. The multiple narrators made me feel like I had known their characters all along! Bravo for excellent performances. I gave it four and ½ stars rounded up to five!

Historia
Intrepid hero Cork O'Connor faces the most harrowing mission of his life when a charter plane carrying his wife, Jo, goes missing in a snowstorm over the Wyoming Rockies. Months after the tragedy, two women show up on Cork's doorstep with evidence that the pilot of Jo's plane was not the man he claimed to be. It may not be definitive proof, but it's a ray of light in the darkness.

Haunting and Heartbreaking
Revisado: 08-01-21
Krueger really knows how to spin a tale and in this ninth book he has reached the pinnacle. This book gave me the full range of emotions from disbelief to total devastation. How many times have you been angry with a loved one and not said goodbye or made up before going off to work for the day? In this story, after a disagreement, Cork’s wife Jo leaves the next morning on a business trip with members of the local tribe to Seattle on a charter flight. They disappear in a snowstorm over Wyoming and Cork spends the rest of the book assuaging his guilt trying to find out what happened to his beloved wife.
The search for the truth takes him down many twisted paths and at one point even believes that Jo may still be alive. This story was truly gut-wrenching and broke my heart into many pieces. This has been my favorite so far, even though the subject matter was so distressing. Krueger’s writing just gets better and better and always makes me feel like I am right there where the action is happening.
I listened to this on audiobook via Audible. As usual, narrator David Chandler did an excellent job bringing the characters to life. I gave this book five stars!

Violence and Acceptance
Revisado: 07-23-21
Book eight is a bit complicated and somewhat hard to keep track of everything happening and everyone involved. One must wonder if this community can ever co-exist peacefully. This story is full of gangs, murder, drugs and mistrust between the white and Indian communities. Cork’s wife Jo asks him to stay out of the investigations this time and he agrees for the good of his family. Despite his good intentions, he ends up being dragged into the middle of it all once again.
It would be impossible to describe everything that occurs, but this story hits close to home for Cork. Violence is the main character and Cork must come to grips with it. This time his daughter Annie is involved and although the ending is a bit cliched, I was overwhelmed with emotion. Krueger always seems to hit a home run with me. I listened to this via Audible and the excellent narrator, David Chandler, once again brought this story to life making these characters seem real to me. I gave it 4 ¼ stars.

Happy and content in his hometown of Aurora, Minnesota, Cork O'Connor has left his badge behind and is ready for a life of relative peace, setting up shop as a private investigator. Henry Meloux's Story!
Revisado: 07-23-21
Henry Meloux has been a great friend to Cork O’Connor for as long as he can remember. The medicine man and spiritual advisor has helped Cork on more than one occasion so when Henry asks Cork to find his son, Cork although shocked, agrees. Cork knows next to nothing about the old man’s history although he has known him for many years. Henry’s story was so interesting, especially since he has never seen or met his son. He learned he had a son through one of his visions.
It turns out that his son is a very wealthy and well-known industrialist living in Thunder Bay, Canada. Now a private investigator, Cork learns that the son, Henry Wellington, is seventy-two years old and a very reclusive widower who does not see anyone.
I very much enjoyed learning about Henry Meloux’s history. This story as well as the rest of book and the mystery involving the Wellingtons was quite intriguing. I listened to this via Audible and the narrator, David Chandler, did an excellent job telling the story, both from Henry’s perspective as well as Cork’s. I gave this great story by Krueger four stars.

When they hear a man and woman arguing on the fog-shrouded riverbank and decide to warn them about the fire, their search for the pair turns up nothing and no one. Haunting Coming of Age Wilderness Tale
Revisado: 06-28-21
I’m not sure why this was my first Peter Heller book, but I can assure you it won’t be my last. The River is the story of two young men, Jack and Wynn, best friends from college, who love fishing, canoeing and communing with nature. On a long-awaited trip to canoe the Maskwa River in Canada where they have planned the adventure of a lifetime, they end up instead facing a dangerous journey that will test their endurance, skills and friendship.
This is an absolutely amazing book that poetically describes the beauty of trying to master the wilderness. It is an intense story of suspense and adventure that occurs when these two make a split-second decision to do the right thing. Jack and Wynn are best friends from different upbringings, but share an unbreakable bond even though they possess different temperaments.
I listened to this via Audible and the narrator was Mark Deakins, a new to me narrator. He did an excellent job of bringing the story to life and making the characters of Jack and Wynn feel real to me.
This story is deep and thought-provoking, and I am better for having read it. I look forward to more from this author. I gave it four stars.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

Nostalgic Rock & Roll Tale
Revisado: 06-24-21
I finally got around to reading (listening to) this book and it was quite enjoyable and nostalgic. As a teenager and young woman in the 1970’s this book brought back some great memories. Music has always been a big part of my life, defining the decades for me, and I still enjoy current music although I don’t listen as much as I used to.
I was never a girl like Daisy, I was a good girl, once who got married early and settled down, but music makes you dream. I was able to live vicariously through the characters in this book. I like the way the book is set up as a journalist interviewing the former members of the band long after they have dismantled their group. Once they were rising stars, now they are ordinary people with a story to tell.
I listened to this on audiobook via Audible and was transfixed by all the different narrators. I loved them all especially one of my favorites Julia Whelan. They all did a fantastic job, and I was quickly able to recognize each character. They brought much realism to the story.
I worried where the story was heading, but it suddenly ended in a way I did not see coming. An interesting choice I’m not sure would have really happened in real life, but it gave romantics like me hope that there was a chance for all of us. I gave it four stars.

Kristen Hannah at her Best!
Revisado: 03-27-21
Let me start by saying that The Four Winds was well worth the wait. Yes, it was bleak and depressing at times, but this type of book is what we need to read, especially in times such as we are living now. This story of Elsa Martinelli and her family living in the Oklahoma panhandle is just one example of what thousands of families endured during the Dust Bowl and Great Depression of the 1930’s.
I rate books not only for how well written they are, but also for how they make me feel. Four Winds most certainly made me feel many things, sadness, despair, hope, respect, and anger. I bawled my eyes out several times. What makes a book like this an excellent read is that is makes the reader not only feel, but also think. I couldn’t help but remember all the stories my grandparents told me about living through the Great Depression and the hard times they had. I thought about all the people who are suffering today during the pandemic from loss of jobs and income and are struggling to get by. I fear that if we suffered something today as truly devastating as the Dust Bowl, we could not survive. Could we save every scrap of food and make a meal out of it? Most Americans get by on ready-made meals or meal delivery. Could we make clothes out of leftover fabrics and scraps? Many today possess no sewing skills. Could we live off the land? Our grandparents had survival skills that have long been forgotten. Yes, they suffered, but they had the grit and fortitude, and the skills to survive.
I was especially ignorant of all that the people of the Dust Bowl suffered. I didn’t realize how badly they were treated by both the government and their fellow Americans when they left their homes for a better life. It was truly heartbreaking to read. Such a dark time in our history, but the human spirit always fights to survive.
I listened to this via Audible and the narrator was Julia Whelan, one of my favorite narrators, did an excellent job bringing the story to life. This is a book I will not soon forget. In fact, I also purchased an autographed hardcover for my library. I gave this poignant masterpiece five stars.

Revisado: 03-27-21
What a fabulous book! I was hooked from the start in my first Kimberly Belle book and was up until the shocking end. I listened to this on Audible and enjoyed the perfect pacing of the story by narrator Johanna Parker who made the story come to life for me.
This is the story of a perfect marriage, or is it really, when the husband dies in a plane crash and the wife learns his secrets. Does anyone really know the person they married? I gave this book four stars and am very much looking forward to reading the backlist of this author. Well done!

This Series Just Gets Better and Better!
Revisado: 10-21-20
Every time I read a new book in this series, I wonder how Marie Force can possibly develop another exciting plot. After all, this is the sixteenth book in the series. I should not have worried because, as usual, she hit it out of the ballpark. I think I’ve mentioned before this is one of my favorite book series, and I wait anxiously for each new episode to be released.
The main characters in the series are Washington DC Metro PD Lt. Sam Holland and her now-husband, Nick Cappuano. Someone murdered Nick’s boss, John O’Connor in the first book, and John’s father and other influential Democratic movers and shakers asked Nick to fill the empty seat. Shortly after, the Vice President stepped down due to illness, and Nick was chosen to move up to that position.
This all occurs while Sam is solving murders and adjusting to her new relationship with Nick. There is so much more to this ongoing story. I have loved being witness to the amazing character development of Sam, Nick, their adopted son Scotty, her father, sisters, and her team at Metro PD. This group of people is a full cast of characters, and one of the most enjoyable parts of the books is the continuous verbal banter between Sam and Nick, Sam and Freddie, Sam and Scotty, well Sam and just about everyone!
I love this series, and I want everyone else to as well. I devoured this book so fast that I will probably re-read just to see what I missed. When I reached the last page, I was so shocked at the ending that I laughed out loud. Now I have to wait until April to find out what happens next. Well played, Marie! I listened to this on Audible and as always the narrator, Eva Kaminsky, was perfect! I gave Fatal Fraud five fabulous stars!!!

First in a Great Series - Sam & Nick!
Revisado: 10-20-20
This weekend, to get ready for Tuesday’s releases, I relistened to Fatal Affair by Marie Force. For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, the Fatal series is a romantic suspense series centered around Washington, DC, Sgt. Sam Holland and her lover, Senator Nick Cappuano. Before I go any further, let me tell you that this sixteen-book series is one of my top five series of all times. If you like the Rachel Caine or Kendra Elliot, this series is even better in my opinion. Any new book that comes out in this series is an auto-buy for me. There is plenty of mystery, action, suspense, romance, and even comedic relief as Sam interacts with her family and her partner Det. Freddie Cruz. I cannot even begin to explain how much I love this series. I have read/listened to the entire fifteen book (now sixteen) series probably four or five times and it never gets old. I listened to this book on Audible with the narrator of the first book Felicity Munroe, who I felt was a little too sweet for the voice of Sam, a strong independent cop. With that said, I also read this book on Kindle, and this amazing book warranted five stars. Give it a chance and the following books as the characters grow and take you over. The sixteenth book, Fatal Fraud, release tomorrow and this girl will be reading nothing else.
