This is my favorite Beth Ehemann book so far.
They all seem to have unique story lines, but this one really is special.

This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

A truly wasted credit
Revisado: 03-21-11
After having read some of the reviews others wrote, I was really disappointed after I started listening. Comparing this offering to Mistborn, as one of the reviewers did, is difficult to understand.
I couldn't finish it. I made it through part of Part 2, and couldn't force myself to continue listening any longer.
The narrator, to me, sounded like a teen. The writing itself wasn't much better.
In short, it bored me to tears.
I don't often write bad reviews, but in this case I felt I owed to the other listeners who give of their time to provide reviews.
I wish I had something positive to say, but there it is.

Historia
In early May of 2005, Captain Tom Tighe and first mate, Loch Reidy, of the sailboat Almeisan welcomed three new crew members, two men and a woman, for a five-day voyage from Connecticut to Bermuda. While Tighe and Reidy had made the journey countless times, the rest of the crew were paying passengers learning about offshore sailing—and looking for adventure. Four days into their voyage, they got adventure but nothing that they had expected or had any training to handle.

THANK GOD! Remember the anticipation, the dread of "Jaws"? Well, to me, this was even more intense, AND non-stop!
I found myself pacing when I was in my office, and when I tried listening in bed, I couldn't relax enough to sleep (don't try it).
Suspenseful? Oh...I'd say so. It felt like a 6-hour roller coaster ride!

Always leave a little salt on the bread. Ikey Solomon's favorite saying is also his way of doing business, and in the business of thieving he's very successful indeed. Ikey's partner in crime is his mistress, the forthright Mary Abacus, until misfortune befalls them. They are parted and each must make the harsh journey from thriving nineteenth century London to the convict settlement of Van Diemen's Land.

Historia
This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

5 stars isn't enough!
Revisado: 06-18-10
This is most definitely one of my favorites.
Both the story and narration are superb.
You know how most books you read have at least one weakness somewhere? Well, the only weakness I could find about this book is that it has an end.
Maybe it's just that it spoke to me, but I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
It has culture, adventure, humor, love, and even philosophy.
I was simply blown away.
If Roberts ever writes another...I wouldn't miss it!

If you've seen the movie, and most have, this audio book is even better.
I'd never read the book, so I didn't realize how good the book might be. Well, being one of the most beloved books of all time, added to a wonderful performance by the narrator, I was simply blown away.
This audio book is truly a treasure.

Talk about edge of your seat!
Revisado: 03-21-10
This was THE most exciting audio book I've yet heard.
The narrator Dick Hill, even though not the best I've heard at producing distinctly different voices for the various characters, his level of intensity throughout the story in general was excellent.
The story...hmmm, well, since I was in the Navy myself, was very interesting.
This audio book was so intense, it kept me up nearly all night because I couldn't turn it off.

Both fantastic...the author and the narrator
Revisado: 03-12-10
This book is listed as a mystery, but Johnson's humor blew me away.
This is one of the best reads I've yet found. I wish Johnson had more than 4 books, but at least I discovered George Guidall (narrator) in the process.
I also thought that I knew who the best narrators were (John Lee & Davina Porter), but now I am happy to say that Guidall is likely to be added to the list.
Don't miss this one...it's a gem!

What a DIFFERENCE a narrator can make!
Revisado: 02-11-10
The first book in this series was a little darker than it needed to be, but it was still respectable. However, this second book...WHOAAA! The narrator just makes it SUCH a chore to listen to. I have my favorite narrators, and I like to think that I'm a patient kind of person, but this...mmmm, good luck making it to the end of it.
