The narrator made this difficult.

I wanted to hear about the experiences of these people. What I did not want was a narrator attempting to do voice performances. It made the experience annoying and made every chapter a struggle to get through. Do yourself a favor and just read the book.

Worst Narrator Ever!!!

I can't say whether I liked or disliked this audiobook. Why? The narration was so incredibly bad as to defy comprehension. He either hates the author and chose to mock him or he really thought that giving a cartoonish and obnoxious characterization was a good idea. It wasn't. No audiobook, in the over 100+, that I have listened to has ever been souch an arduous trek. I had to actually read the book because I was totally unable to focus on what was said versus how it was being said. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS AUDIOBOOK. Any other books that has this narrator will be avoided like the plague.

A raw, frustrating, but necessary story.

I loved this book. It had to be told by the writer. I was angered, frustrated, exasperated, saddened, joyful, and hopeful. All in one, intense, book. A keeper to be sure. God bless ALL these men and women, in America and those left behind in Afghanistan. I pray for you.

Narration leaves something to be desired

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The narrator was quite good, except for the unneeded "voices" that she inserted.
My only issue, with the book itself, was the constant referral to using Henry VIII as an example of divorce. Henry divorced his wives because they would not yield him a son. His reasonings were selfish in nature. That should not be used as the high ground to dismiss the reasons for divorce. Otherwise, this book is a very good, enjoyable, and rapid listening experience.
