Historia
Defense expert Seth Jones argues that the US is woefully unprepared for the future of global competition. While America has focused on building fighter jets, missiles, and conventional warfighting capabilities, its three principal rivals - Russia, Iran, and China - have increasingly adopted irregular warfare: cyber attacks, the use of proxy forces, propaganda, espionage, and disinformation to undermine American power. Jones details the key steps the United States must take to alter how it thinks about - and engages in - competition before it is too late.

Informative but somewhat biased.
Revisado: 10-12-24
When it comes to the Information about America’s enemies this book is very interesting as it provides the reader with an insight into the three man that have shaped their strategy against the US. The only issue I have with the book is the author’s bias against trump and republicans that he s displayed several times throughout the book.

Historia
In this gripping chronicle of America's struggle for independence, award-winning historian John Ferling transports listeners to the grim realities of that war, capturing an eight-year conflict filled with heroism, suffering, cowardice, betrayal, and fierce dedication. As Ferling demonstrates, it was a war that America came much closer to losing than is now usually remembered. General George Washington put it best when he said that the American victory was "little short of a standing miracle."

I read this book for one of my classes in college about the Revolutionary war and I am glad to have come acrossed it. No country can survive if newer generations forget the price that has been paid in sweat and blood for their freedoms. A must read to all Americans.

Hanson compellingly portrays the ways Athens and Sparta fought on land and sea, in city and countryside, and details their employment of the full scope of conventional and non-conventional tactics, from sieges to targeted assassinations, torture, and terrorism. He also assesses the crucial roles played by warriors such as Pericles and Lysander, artists, among them Aristophanes, and thinkers including Sophocles and Plato.

I have read many books on this subject and still Professor Hanson was able to deliver a complete new approach to the study of this war as well its impact not only in Greek society but in how western societies today see and fight wars.

Historia
Many nations, peoples and special interest groups believe that violence will advance their cause. Warfare has changed greatly since the Second World War; it continued to change during the late 20th century, and this process is still accelerating. Political, technological, social and religious forces are shaping the future of warfare, but most Western armed forces have yet to evolve significantly from the Cold War era when they trained to resist a conventional invasion by the Warsaw Pact.

Historia
For 10,000 years, Cadia stood as a bastion against the daemonic tide spewing forth from the Eye of Terror. But now the Fortress World lies in ruins, its armies decimated in the wake of Abaddon the Despoiler and his Thirteenth Black Crusade. Those who survived, though haunted by the loss of their beloved homeworld, remain bloodied and unbarred, fighting ruthlessly in the Emperor’s name. Amongst them is the indomitable Sergeant Minka Lesk.

Unfortunately a female narrator made this book really hard to listen to. Not only her voice but the weird pauses where shouldn’t be none.
This is a Good story no doubt about it, but I’d recommend this book to be read instead of listened to.

Historia
An epic history of a doomed civilization and a lost empire. The devastating struggle to the death between the Carthaginians and the Romans was one of the defining dramas of the ancient world. In an epic series of land and sea battles, both sides came close to victory before the Carthaginians finally succumbed and their capital city, history, and culture were almost utterly erased.

Mr. Miles did and incredible job on this book. I’m glad I finally listen it.
It gives so much perspective to the period, the fall of the Greek hegemony to the rise of the Roman Empire. Very well researched, this is a great introduction to this period. Thank you for the great book.

Historia
For many Americans, Brazil is a land of contradictions: vast natural resources and entrenched corruption; extraordinary wealth and grinding poverty; beautiful beaches and violence-torn favelas. Brazil occupies a vivid place in the American imagination, and yet it remains largely unknown. In an extraordinary journey that spans 500 years, from European colonization to the 2016 Summer Olympics, Lilia M. Schwarcz and Heloisa M. Starling's Brazil offers a rich, dramatic history of this complex country.

Unfortunately this book falls under the same thread of many other nowadays. Nothing can be seem other than from the Lens of the oppressed and the oppressor. I’m sure the Communist leaders of the past if alive today would be very satisfied with the results of their subversion of western institutions and the cracks on the foundations of our civilization that came from it.

Historia
The Courage to Be Disliked, already an enormous best seller in Asia with more than 3.5 million copies sold, demonstrates how to unlock the power within yourself to be the person you truly want to be. Using the theories of Alfred Adler, one of the three giants of 20th-century psychology, The Courage to Be Disliked follows an illuminating conversation between a philosopher and a young man. The philosopher explains to his pupil how each of us is able to determine our own life, free from the shackles of past experiences, doubts, and the expectations of others.

The book is very very deep entrenched in Greek philosophy, I’d say stoicism especially.
The way it is presented makes it very accessible and useful to today’s life, and even more to teenagers and young adults that are having a hard time to find a solid foundation from where to build their future on.
Great and straightforward.

Sad reality
Revisado: 04-28-21
This book just confirmed my deepest and darkest convictions about China.
We are in the path to the greatest conflict in human history. One the will change if not bring out species to the brink of extinction. What will be asked of us will also change us, In one side we might have to renounce everything that we as westerners hold dear, our religions, freedoms and independence in the other to stand up to China and have to fight with everything we have and the certainty that to be victorious we will have to kill millions if not billions of people to protect our way of life.
