I enjoyed this book, not as much as the first but having said that, the story buildup and character development is an excellent preparation for the third and final book.

This series should only be read in order. Now I’m getting ready for the final book, it promises to be a epic . Here is hoping for “mind blowing” excitement.

What a story, even though reading/listening to a story about a pandemic is a little hard, it did not diminish the storyline if anything it added too it. I was literally enthralled from the first words to the last.

This book is a change for me, not my usual reading genre but what refreshing change that was full of rewards, I wholly recommend this audio version and now I am off to listen to the second book in the series. Can’t wait.

Truly nothing I write can express how profoundly this story has affected me both on a personal level and spiritual. I will say this, I have read Fredrick Douglas biography letters and essays and having that background when reading this story showed me that this author was profoundly and deeply aware of the plight and lives of slaves, her story is point on and yes while this story is fiction it is based on stories she heard personally and interwove into a beautiful tragic story of the life of slaves, I use the word beautiful simply because Uncle Tom’s character is beautiful and profound.

This story will shake you, words are used that no decent person can utter today but you have to power through it with the deep understanding that those were the vernaculars for the times and we must never forget the history of slavery in all its complexities and hardship, that people during that time both slaves and masters were more complex in character then ours modern minds can fully comprehend and or accept.

Endless arguments and misunderstandings

Audible version- honestly if you are into endless arguments and misunderstandings that border on hate, this book is for you. There was one character in the whole book who was worth the read and that was Gunther our hero’s best friend and right hand. I can’t waste anymore words on a review.

There are triggers, emotional abuse(both hero and heroine) and some “accidental” physical abuse.

Also the audible version does not have the epilogue other critics mention, clearly listeners are not worth the full book.

My two stars are for the following:
1. Gunter the only sensible character.
2. The Narrator was sufficient.

I think I will stick to romances, seriously disturbed book which I got through audible.

This was a mystery slash thriller with a dash of romance. I remember reading Koontz in my teens along with John Saul, while I prefer romance I do like to switch out of that genre every once in a while especially if I am going through a book drought.

This author is amazing, the story was so full of twists and turns, though you as the reader/listener understood early one what was going on, you had to live the characters trying to figure out what was going on.

Sometimes the story dragged, mainly while we where interacting with Tony and his police work, getting to know him. I felt that it was an unnecessary filler , that is until the story progressed I appreciate this insight.

A gripping story a little dated because, well I think it happens in the 70’s or 80’s pre-pager and way before a cellphone, LOL, I found myself constantly thinking, call the cops, use your phone, well in those days things where not that easy and it was frustratingly funny looking back and thinking how the heck did we survive. We did, but it was an interesting dichotomy for the reader.

The villain was seriously evil but Koontz somehow, through the progression of the story made us very interested in him and what made him the way he was and let me tell you it is bad very bad you almost feel sorry for him, almost.

I do recommend this book but with the warning it will creep you out. Nothing politically correct in this book if you are sensitive to that, well you have been warned.

The individual who reads the story was fantastic managed to scare me.

What did you like best about Burning Up Flint? What did you like least?

They story idea is quite unique

If you’ve listened to books by Laurann Dohner before, how does this one compare?

I read New Species #uptodate but this one does not come close

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I cant put my finger on it, but her narration was off.

Did Burning Up Flint inspire you to do anything?

Yes, not ti read/ listen the rest of the series.

Any additional comments?

My money is better spent on the New species. I really wish I had enjoyed this one more, but I did not. Makes me leery of trying other series by the author.

What disappointed you about Shadow of Night?

Everything, had potential and went nowhere. Time travel and no imagination. Characters went from interesting to boring.

What was most disappointing about Deborah Harkness’s story?

The fantasy element was lost, even with the time travel, there was no WoW factor

What does Jennifer Ikeda bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

she tried to keep me interested

What character would you cut from Shadow of Night?

Can I call for a do-over

Any additional comments?

Don't waste your time. Even for a geek/nerd and a closet romance freak with intelligence higher than the average gnat this will bore you to tears. I don't like seeing a woman who is independent spiral into this helpless heroine who is subservient to her master. Main character lost her spirit. It makes me want to return the first one also, because it can't be finished .

Where does Fury rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

He is number one.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ellie

Which character – as performed by Vanessa Chambers – was your favorite?

She did well on all, Tiger needs a little work. But overall excellent.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This would need first rate actors mini-series HBO, none of those Nora Roberts type directors and actors. This has the potential to be a Spartacus type program if done correctly.

Any additional comments?

This is a must read/listen for all mature readers who like the fantasy type books. No teeny-hightschool characters here. People over the age of 25 adult fantasy with adult language and adult maturity. I took a risk here and I was so relieved when all the characters were adult. Thank you.

Where does The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

2

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie?

His awakening of emotion to Beth, don't want to say to much, it could ruin it for others.

Have you listened to any of Angela Dawe’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No this was the first time. She was terrific.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Passion

Any additional comments?

The only thing that keeps me from giving this book a full 5 stars is the overdone intimate scenes, perhaps it was because you are listening to the story rather than reading it I don't know, but it wont stop me from getting the second book :)
