If you're this far into the story you know what to expect.
Another great offering. Narration is spot on as usual.

I really tried to like it, but the pacing and direction were just all over the place.
You start the book in what should be chapter 4 or 5. No world building , little description to the tech.
You are given multiple chapters with a POV for throwaway characters with no real backstory or personality.
The physics and tech are incredibly spotty, some times contradicting themselves in the next chapter.
The "super" ship is millions of years old and as big as a small moon, but everything the crew needs is just around the corner.
What does it look like? Big. Big is apparently a shape.
I could go on. No editor should have let this mess thru.

Teenage angst + supermagic space monsters with severe anti-social personality disorders.
It's not return it bad, but i doubt I'll re-listen to it.

Not the typical Dresden effort. Probably one of the weaker books in recent times.

Marsters KILLS it as always, with superb reading.

Not quite bad enough to return, but I'll probably not buy the sequel.
Writing from 2 points of view was irritating to listen to, personally.
Seems to be written by a 19 year old anime lover.

The narration was fine but nothing noteworthy

The characters completely one dimensional. The "school" with only ONE class.
Characters blatantly doing stupid things because PLOT.
All the girls fall in "love" instantly, and are ok seemingly sharing a dude.

I could go on.

The book was BAD.

The narration was the only thing that kept me from turning it off after a couple hours.

There is a lot of set up and not much conclusion here.
A LOT of plot points were left hanging for a very obvious 4th book.

The book feels like it was cut in half to make two smaller novels.

It wasn't bad, in fact I quite liked it, it's just unfinished.

If you are into the main story it fills in some holes nicely.

Not perfect, but not bad.. good enough to keep.
You should probably listen to this one after book 2 and before book 3 of the main series.

First off the book wasn't bad per-se.. it was just written very differently than the intro led me it to believe it was heading.

Firstly, if the author's name didn't give it away, the book was written with a Russian protagonist with a VERY Russian moral outlook. Look at the typeline - it needed a translator . Some of the things they do just don't make sense to a very American audience.

Secondly the main character is an idiot who thinks he's intelligent. He doesn't get better over the course of the novel, he remains an idiot... don't get your hopes up.

Third - there was a brief foray into sci-fi when they explain his powers that really goes off the rails for a bit. It felt very out of place. Then a huge curveball in the story ... only to ret-con itself a chapter later. Silliness.

If you want to read a story about a guy walking a dog for three weeks, realizing he's overweight and going to the gym, then doing stupid things and getting mugged for it repeatedly... this one's for you!

Standard Sanderson!

Great pacing, enough action to keep you entertained while the story keeps you wanting more.

Leaves with just enough out there to be a complete book while making you eager for the next one.

One of my favorites of 2018 so far
