Historia
The Indignities of Being a Woman candidly traces the history of womanhood and investigates how much things have really changed for womankind. By carefully x-raying areas such as body image, marriage, mental illness, fashion, and politics, this audiobook examines what it was like to be a woman in the past versus what it’s like now, when women are constantly told equality between the sexes exists but reality proves otherwise.

Very Informative
Revisado: 06-20-21
My hubby and I share an account, so this is me posting under his name (an irony within regards to this book, I know). The authors were very informative and engaging. I especially loved the past life regressions and could listen to volumes of these. Merrill, you are my spirit animal in all your awkwardness and I love you for that.
My only complaint is that Audible didn't hope I enjoyed this program at the end, which makes me think their prerecorded voice was a bit salty.
Thank you, ladies, and I will hunt down more of your work now!

Was this recorded in a basement?
Revisado: 09-26-17
I'm going to start by saying that the story was actually pretty decent. The hard part is getting that far. I really wish there was a way to rate the performance and the production quality separately. I think Shawn Compton did a good job. He's not my favorite narrator, but he's no where near the bottom of the pile.
I don't know if the issue was the equipment or the editing. I find it hard to believe that someone listened to this before release and said "sounds great! Ship it!" Some chapters are almost unlistenable (is that a word) and I had to skip them. The best way I can describe them would be to Mr Compton was required to hold a pillow over his face while that chapter was recorded. Why? I don't know. Someone should have caught this when editing. It's very inconsistent and varies by chapter. One chapter may be just fine, but the next? Screamed into a pillow for some reason.
Some of the lines sounded different mid sentence, as though they were rerecorded later on and added in. There's also a lot of background noise. You can hear pages turning, someone shuffling papers, drinking, and what sounds like a spoon stirring a hot drink (I'd like to think Shawn had tea) and hitting the side of the mug.
The worst one was the 8 minutes of near silence that takes place after a chapter finishes in book 2. I say near silence because you can hear many of the things I mentioned above taking place over the 8 minutes before the next chapter starts. Breathing, drinking, what sounds like someone else talking far away from the mic.
Regardless, someone should have caught all of this before we had the chance to hear it. Of the hundreds of books I've listened to on Audible this is the first time I've come across such a poor production of a book. If I was the author J S Morin I would be livid that someone did this to my book.

I laughed.
Revisado: 06-14-16
It's been a long time since a book made me laugh out loud. Many make me smile, but this book actually made me laugh. Not just once, several times. For that alone I recommend this book.
However, this book also made me long for something I never knew I would long for. Not a reality where Firefly was never cancelled. I long for that all the time. I long for a reality where Adam Baldwin is President.
Tom Stranger, if you're reading this review, where can I send you my resume? I fought with Commander Shepard against the Reapers. I have references!

I expect this is the last I read in the series.
Revisado: 01-19-15
This series has turned in to a mediocre romp through an generic world with stereotypical characters. Everything that has happened in the last few books has been completely predictable. The character sometimes follow their stereotypes so closely that it adds a touch of unintentional humor.
Evil king is evil. Both of them. Thor's friends blindly follow him anywhere he goes. EVERYONE dies from throat related injuries. Honestly, is that the only place people in this world aim? You could turn it in to a drinking game.
Poor Eric has to deal with the worst people ever born. How many times does a girl need to be sold to inform us he loves her? And why do 3 weeks pass in his life while a year has passed for everyone else?
This isn't a bad series, not by any means. It's just not good. Wayne Farrell does a good job though.

Revisado: 09-01-14
I've listened to a lot of books on Audible. If I made a list of the 10 most enjoyable series this would rank among them. The characters are interesting, the world is well thought out, the writing and narration are both top notch. I have nothing bad to say about this book. Hopefully there won't be year and a half wait for the 3rd in the trilogy.

Pretty good sequel, but...
Revisado: 08-27-14
I enjoyed the first book a bit more. I stumbled across the first book in this series by accident, looking for different book. I spent a credit on it and was very glad I did.
This second book was also very enjoyable. I listened to it over 2 days. For some reason I had a hard time getting in to it early on. The drastic change in setting from the first book took a bit getting used to.
For some reason the Thousand Names that were so important in book 1 barely find mention in book 2. I suppose I was expecting much more with that. Perhaps the author wasn't entirely sure how he wanted to proceed with the supernatural parts of the story and focused on a revolution instead? Regardless, that was the reason I dropped it to 4 stars.
I definitely would recommend this book and the first in the series, The Thousand Names.

Very short and uneventful for the price.
Revisado: 06-18-14
I bought the first book despite it's short length and enjoyed it. It wasn't something new, but it was entertaining. I passed on getting book 2 a number of times due to it's cost vs length but eventually decided to give it a go. I regret that decision.
These first 2 books honestly feel like part of a longer book that was split up to make more money. Practically nothing is accomplished in this book. I would rank this among the least satisfying Audible purchases (the site currently tells me I'm at 749 titles) I have made to date.
With so many great alternatives in this genre, I can't justify spending the money to risk another lack luster entry in this series. I can't imagine how it managed to get such high ratings. Book 4 in the Odyssey One series by Evan Currie comes out in a few weeks, I'll just wait for that.

What an odd book.
Revisado: 12-21-13
Would you listen to Ninja Versus Pirate Featuring Zombies again? Why?
I wouldn't listen to this again. It wasn't a horrible book. It certainly had it's funny moments. The issue I have is that most of the humor is immature. It was funny once, but I think another listen would have me changing to another title before long.
Any additional comments?
One reviewer on Amazon compared this book to South Park. This book is full of crude jokes, is at times racist and discriminatory, and tries hard to offend pretty much everyone at some point. If you enjoy South Park, you'd probably like this book.

Where does The Darwin Elevator rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I've listened to over 200 books on Audible and I would rank this in the top 10%. Having my favorite narrator Simon Vance doesn't hurt.
Any additional comments?
This book is a tad hard to follow at first. It's a post apocalyptic story, but some of the facts that all the characters in the book know do not get explained to the reader/listener right way. However, after the first hour I had a hard time taking a break from it. This book really doesn't have any slow sections. It draws you in and just takes off. Eagerly awaiting a sequel.

Religious propaganda in a super hero shell.
Revisado: 01-07-13
What about Scot Wilcox’s performance did you like?
Scot Wilcox really tried to make this entertaining. He changed his voice for each character, and really went over the top with Powerhouse.
Was Tales of the Dim Knight worth the listening time?
I'm torn about this. This could have a been a fun yet stereotypical super hero story. It didn't take itself too serious and had many funny moments. What I didn't like was how they put all the religious propaganda into it. The book is broken into chapters with the superhero vs some bad guy, and about half of them end up involve religion, going to church, or something else along those lines. No where in the publisher's summary or the author's website does it mention anything about religion and how large a part it plays in this book.
Please don't take this to mean I'm anti-religion as I consider myself a religious person. But I'm not a fan of it being pushed on me in a book like this.
Any additional comments?
If you are looking for a super hero tale with many low IQ characters and religious notes, this could be perfect for you.
