I have had a hard time getting into the other Discworld books, but the Tiffany Aching story is excellent. I listen multiple times. I just love those wee free men.

What disappointed you about Twilight Tenth Anniversary/Life and Death Dual Edition?

I purchased this audiobook because of the re-imagined part. I’ve read the rest of Twilight, The Host and most recently The Chemist.
I always stay away from book flaps because I want to remain unspoiled. I had a pre-conceived notion that this might be the book told from Edward’s point of view, like Ms. Meyer started a long time ago. That was an exciting prospect because I had enjoyed the beginning of what was released.
Soon, I realized that this is just Twilight told as if Bella was a boy instead. That was my first disappointment.
I found this to be very lazily written and not much imagination invested. The concept seems to be mostly sticking to the EXACT same story, just with almost all roles reversed by gender. I think that the author could have done a better job developing the story or the characters in a way that still kept to the main story arch while actually providing something fresh for the reader. The only variance comes much too late; a few chapters from the end.
I will say, I very much enjoyed that it did have some unique parts to it, but sadly, it was too late for me. It's a 10+ investment before we get anywhere.
Only fans will have purchased this retelling, and I believe this was a disservice to us.
I have never returned a book to Audible. I’m hoping it’s still allowed because I can safely promise to never read this again.
I’m not a huge fan of 50 Shades of Grey because it is a rip off of this story, but I will say it’s re-imagining was more creative than Life and Death.
Stay away from this retelling.
Trust me.

Would you ever listen to anything by Stephenie Meyer again?

Absolutely

Any additional comments?

Volinette’s Song is a classic coming of age tale jam packed full of adventure. The narrative is fraught with parents who don’t understand their children, major life changes, the mean girl, the handsome guy pal, a brave heroine with untapped talent… AND a healthy dose of monsters and magic. Mr. Hengst once again takes us into the magical realm of Solendrea. Almost from the very start you want a share in Volinette’s wish to be granted admission into the Academy of Arcane Arts & Sciences. I was a little worried when I read she was a singer (I know, not surprising given the title) and was thinking there might be many songs sung within the novel. Thankfully, for me anyway, the songs are mostly described and the words of the song are not shared with the reader. That being said, the song that is sung is by a beautiful voice. Additionally, the narrator does a fairly good job with the different voices. Her inflection was very reminiscent of Carolyn McCormick and her performance of The Hunger Games trilogy. All in all, I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next novel set in Solendrea. Who knows, Mr. Hengst left the door wide open continue this story.
