Historia
The Carryx—part empire, part hive—has waged wars of conquest for centuries, destroying or enslaving species across the galaxy in its conflict with an ancient and deathless enemy. When they descend on the isolated world of Anjiin, the human population is abased, slaughtered, and put in chains. The best and brightest are abducted, taken to the Carryx world-palace to join prisoners from a thousand other species. Dafyd Alkhor, assistant to a prestigious scientist, is captured along with his team.

can't wait for the next one.

I like everything, including the plausible deniability of wether or not this is the same universe as The Expanse. I know the authors have said it isn't, but it can fit.

Historia
Acclaimed actress Claire Danes burnishes an epic story of heroes, gods, and monsters in a groundbreaking translation of The Odyssey, the first great adventure story in the Western literary tradition. When the wily warrior-king Odysseus sets off for home after the Trojan War, he doesn’t realize this simple undertaking will become a perilous journey of 10 years. Beset at every turn, he encounters obstacles, detours, and temptations—both supernatural and human—while his wife Penelope fends off would-be suitors desperate to take the throne.

A classic well done.
Revisado: 08-30-24
My only criticism is that the vast majority of the translators notes should be after the story.
There are people who are unfamiliar with this story and there are a lot of spoilers in the notes.
That aside, this is a great translation and a great performance.

Historia
The refugees from the Empire have established a thriving city called Haven with the help of the Tayledras and their allies. But the Tayledras have begun a slow withdrawal to the dangerous lands known as the Pelagirs, leaving the humans of Haven to find their own way. But even with Haven settled, the lands around Haven are not without danger. Most of the danger comes in the form of magicians: magicians taking advantage of the abundant magical energy in the lands the Tayledras have cleansed; magicians who have no compunction about allying themselves with dark powers and enslaving magical beasts.

Like many of Misty's fans I have been waiting for this story for most of my life and it didn't disappoint.
It answers many questions about the world, things that by the time of the bulk of the Valdemar saga have been lost to history.

Historia
Tim Cotton has been a police officer for more than 30 years. The writer in him has always been drawn to the stories of the people he has met along the way. Dealing with the standard issue ne’er-do-wells as a patrol officer, homicide detective, polygraph examiner, and later as the lieutenant in charge of the criminal investigation division certainly provides an interesting backdrop - but more often he writes about the regular folks he encounters, people who need his help, or those who just want to share a joke or even a sad story.

Just Real, good stories.
Revisado: 03-28-24
Read by the author, which is the only way a book like this really works in audio format.
Thank you Detective Lieutenant Cotton for your insight into the lives of Mainers and the LEOs that protect and serve them.
I only wish that every law enforcement agency could be as noble.
This is a great book about real stories that really happened, and it's really good.

Historia
On the border between Valdemar and the deadly Pelagirs Forest, the gryphon hero Kelvren returns from a near-fatal self-sacrifice that won him the approval of Valdemar's ground troops, but caused a diplomatic crisis. Frustrated by his lack of a hero's welcome, Kelvren is talked into helping with an expedition by his old friend, Firesong. Firesong struggles with his own age and mortality, and he intends to solve a vast mystery at the center of legendary Lake Evendim as his crowning achievement.

I feel like this was ghost written, and poorly.
Revisado: 11-15-23
The reason for the title of this review is the numerous errors or retcons in this book, along with its many inconsistencies.
Let's start with the good, the plot is interesting and Woodson is among the best living narrators.
Now the bad. In the first couple chapters the Gryphons are written as having the exaggerated R and S sounds in their speech like in all previous Valdemar books involving Gryphons, then for some reason this changes mid book.
A character who in a previous book was depicted as a cis-het woman and had given birth in that book is now a transgender woman and the child is never mentioned. This character being trans is only mentioned in passing and has no bearing on the plot or this character's development in this story.
To any long time fan of the series there is a glaring error near the end of chapter 8 where I'm sure they meant to say "Ma'ar" but used "Urtho" instead. It is a passage talking about the origin of the "Maka'ar" and says that Urtho created them.

A great tale for any age.
Revisado: 07-10-23
I read most of it as a child. We were poor, but my grandmother would buy me a book for every book I finished and wrote a book about as proof I had read it. At some point she owed my 7 books and I asked her to buy me the boxed set because we had read Wardrobe in class, and of course she did. Having these stories read again by some of the best narrators ever is such a treat.

I think my title says it all. In modernity we have lost something of great story telling.
Though the narrator lacks a bit of distinction between character voices, it is otherwise extremely well read and at an excellent pace.

April May and the Carls are back in the much-anticipated sequel to Hank Green's number-one New York Times best-selling debut novel, An Absolutely Remarkable Thing. Months later, the world is as confused as ever. Revisado: 01-23-23
Hank Green proves once again that he has his finger right on the pulse of society. This conclusion to AART is a frightening revelation of how the unregulated advancement of technology and the concentration of wealth and power can easily lead to the downfall of society.

A riveting drama about late adolescence.
Revisado: 11-21-22
This story is a gritty and realistic telling of the physical and psychological challenges of what it's like in the late Highschool years in the US.
It covers strong subject matter, that arrive would say it's inappropriate for 15-17 year olds. Those people are delusional if they think their late teen aged kids don't already know about these things and are actually probably engaging in these activities.
