Historia
After a brief revival following World War I, during which it successfully defeated a Soviet attempt to invade in an effort to carry "international revolution" into Germany and Central Europe, Poland once again fell victim to its neighbors in 1939. Adolf Hitler's Third Reich and Josef Stalin's USSR collaborated in the conquest and then split Poland between them. The Germans instituted oppressive rule in their portion of Poland, executing some 7,000 people on political grounds and imprisoning thousands of others.

not much
Revisado: 08-25-24
The worst narration that I have heard in a audiobook in a very long time. The reader read too fast and it was difficult to discern the endings and beginnings of sentences and paragraphs. The reader did not even attempt to pronounce Polish names and places correctly. The content of the material itself was rather superficial.

Historia
Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this piercing work distills 3,000 years of the history of power into 48 well-explicated laws. This bold volume outlines the laws of power in their unvarnished essence, synthesizing the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, Carl von Clausewitz, and other infamous strategists. The 48 Laws of Power will fascinate any listener interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control.

Same stories over and over again
Revisado: 01-06-23
Author lists 48 Laws of Power and the proceeds to use the same examples over abd over again. Perhaps a good book to have for reference in hard cover but not a great audiobook. I would be hard pressed to list 5 of the 48 laws and I just finished the listen.

Historia
Hailed by The New York Times as "a marvel of storytelling", The Things They Carried’s portrayal of the boots-on-the-ground experience of soldiers in the Vietnam War is a landmark in war writing. Now, three-time Emmy Award winner-Bryan Cranston, star of the hit TV series Breaking Bad, delivers an electrifying performance that walks the book’s hallucinatory line between reality and fiction and highlights the emotional power of the spoken word.

Washington Post national investigative reporter Carol Leonnig and White House bureau chief Philip Rucker, both Pulitzer Prize winners, provide the definitive insider narrative of Donald Trump's unique presidency with shocking new reporting and insight into its implications. Here, for the first time, certain officials who felt honor-bound not to divulge what they witnessed in positions of trust tell the truth for the benefit of history.

I am by no means a Donald Trump fan. Super glad he is not a president anymore. But this book is over the top partisan drivel. I should hsve returned it but I finished it simply for the same reason that people slow down and look at car accidents on the interstate.

I wish I could get my free credit back
Revisado: 01-01-20
Pure drivel. December Audible Originals were pretty weak on substance/ things of interest to me so I selected this one as one of the free selections to members thinking that I might get a few chuckles out of it. Also thought that I could not go wrong with so many positive ratings. I get it that I am not a fan of the Romance genre but there should be something redeeming about the story with so many positive reviews- there was not. The book (if it can be called a book) was simply pure drivel.

Historia
A desperate Kremlin takes advantage of a military crisis in Asia to simultaneously strike into Western Europe and invade east Africa in a bid to occupy three rare Earth mineral mines that will give Russia unprecedented control over the world's hi-tech sector for generations to come. Pitted against the Russians are a Marine lieutenant colonel pulled out of a cushy Pentagon job, a French Special Forces captain and his intelligence operative father, a young Polish partisan fighter, an A-10 Warthog pilot, and the commander of an American tank platoon....

Suspend all disbelief
Revisado: 08-07-19
I really wanted to like this book but it is really bad. Exciting perhaps. But only if you can get past the total lack of research performed by LtCol Rawlings. Not Clancy and not Coyle for sure. As a retired military officer, I understand that it is a difficult to write such a book as it does require a great deal of research. However, LtCol Rawlings simply called it in- lazy. So forget about details such as there are no Tank Regiments in the US Army as combat formations or that tank on tank meeting engagement battles are over almost as soon as they start- especially without air support and indirect fire support. Forget the lack of research into details entirely. Now you must suspend disbelief to enjoy this book. You have to believe that there are no other military units in Poland other than territorial defense forces. You have to believe that the US Air Force in Europe does not exist. You have to believe that no other country in NATO has an Air Force that can react to an incursion into sovereign airspace within 24 hours. You have to believe that the US Navy does not exist either in the Mediterranean or in the Middle East area of operations. You have to believe that invading Russian forces have somehow figured out a way to move from the Eastern Border of Poland to Ansbach, Germany in less than 24 hours. Google maps tells me that it will take about 13 hours by car- impossible for an armored formation moving under contact to even come close to this. The list goes on and on of things that you have to believe that have no resemblance to reality. Yes this is fiction. Clancy writes fiction and did Coyle- the difference is that they executed due diligence in the research and did not take broad liberties with reality. So what about character development? Really, there is none. Characters are like cartoon characters acting out their preconceived part- the washed up Army officer who has a chance at redemption; the unlikely and unwilling female hero; the Marine officer who bucks the higher ups- if only they would have listened to him; the affable but fat Army Major side kick... this book is a joke.
