NOT A Stand Alone Book—
Revisado: 10-02-24
This story started like I had walked in to the middle of a conversation-confusing and uninteresting. It didn’t help that the beginning was mainly tons of narration with very little actual interactive conversations. This caused the narrator, who had worked well with Riyria, to seem to go on and on in an unappealing rhythmic droning voice.
On another note, the modern day lingo was jarring. I just couldn’t see the characters actually saying things like iffy or tossing the ball to you.
And while Riyria was worth listening to, I also didn’t care for the Legends series, so maybe I’m just a fan of buddy books. Who knew?

I found this narrator unbearable.
His strange cadence was as unnerving as riding with a first-time driver. Stomp on the gas! Stomp on the break! Repeat! Repeat! Repeat!

An Almost 10 Hour Angst-Filled Soap Opera-
Revisado: 06-08-24
There really wasn’t a purpose to this addition to the series except to highlight the main character’s CONSTANT BAD DECISIONS in every single aspect of his life.
I enjoyed rooting for Sam in the previous books, but I detested him by the end of this one. Slime, Sleaze, Weak, Weasel are only a few of the polite names I can think of to describe him.
There wasn’t really even a story here-just hours of bickering and angst, with only a few short plot threads that went absolutely nowhere and with no conclusions or closures. Sorry Mr. Chandler, you lost me on this one.

A REALLY Bad Lifetime Channel Movie Plot-
Revisado: 04-25-24
Not only was this book moving slower than cold molasses without a likable character in sight, but I had had enough of the main character, a terribly weak-willed addict who was squandering every opportunity given. We all battle demons in some form, and since he was headed to the missionaries maybe he was supposed to get miraculously healed, but I just couldn’t stomach spending another minute with this guy.
The narrator’s breathy style didn’t help.

A Bad Daytime Soap Opera
Revisado: 04-08-24
For those who enjoy hours and hours of who is sleeping with whom. This book had many participants with various scenarios trying to go for tantalizing I guess, but the whole thing just felt awkward.
I wish the author had spent his talents developing a better mystery.

NARRATION AS GREAT AS EVER!
Revisado: 11-13-23
Interesting storyline was LOW ON EXCESSIVE EMOTIONAL ANGST AND HIGH ON MYSTERY AND INTRIGUE. Much appreciated as that combination is getting harder to find!
The narration was just as good as ever so I’m confused by the few bad reviews, but to each their own.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!
Revisado: 10-17-23
One hour in and I wanted to scream. The actual story hadn’t even begun-just longwinded monologues and Holmes and Watson bickering at each other like an unhappy couple.
But more importantly, I could not take the narrator’s affected voice one moment longer.

Like Other Reviewers, I Too Quit-
Revisado: 09-26-23
Neither story nor narrator could capture my attention. I spent more time trying to think of a review that might help listeners like me, but I gave up. I enjoy action-based books with a little more grit than a cozy mystery but not overwhelmed with violence or gore. This book started off okay until the main character developed a split personality-one was a wimp, the other a trained killer. I just found both annoying. The narrator’s monotone delivery didn’t help.

Narrator And I Weren’t Compatible

I found the characters’ voices far too similar and the narrator’s rhythm had an unusual flow. I found myself grinding my teeth in frustration so had to give it up.
