I have loved the British Monarchy history my entire life. I was so excited and waiting for this book to be released.

Ms.Langley is not a narrator. She is so dry that you start to wonder if she even liked her research. It's ruined by the narration. I'll get it in print.

The narrator is horrible. It’s like Casey Kasem reading the ENTIRE thing. I cannot take the camp voice. Didn’t even make it to 20 minutes.

Grasping at Straws

Just don’t. This author had written a great book with a great story…so I read this. It’s like it’s not from the same person.

The storyline is so attenuated and random. The characters are very shallow archetypes-Naive Southern Belle, Gritty woman from Brooklyn, Rich Villain, Quirky friend, Token Ethnic Girl. The earthquake of 1906 is counted down in the book, and literally becomes nothing in the story. This story reads like the authors wrote a brainstorming session—it should have this, Oh, and this.

I forced myself to finish it but only because it was a personal grudge to not give-up. I have enjoyed many of Kate Quinn’s books, but this one I would leave off of her CV.

Baggage

This story was almost completely exposition. The big reveals throughout were rushed through. There were many creative avenues that were developed and then left to hang. Instead of a story taking you along, this story requires the reader to drag it along like baggage.

Mustn’t be missed Classic!!

All I can say is the clichéd version of Marlon Brando as The Godfather stopped me from reading this sooner. My loss. It is so much more complex than a book about the mafia. It’s a story about family and tragedy and revenge. Must read!

OMGEEZUS. I cannot believe that I actually listened to this all the way through. Everything you hate about action movies packed with the worst of lifetime sex scenes and romantic dramas. WORD. VOMIT.

This is one of those books that had potential…until they made the lead as naive as a box of rocks. She literally narrates the holes in the completely unbelievable plot the entirety of the book. Don’t waste your time.

Like a Primer

This book was good for an introductory primer on serial killers. However, the author is a bit stuck on himself. He does verbalize the way most of us feel about serial killers’ excuses. However, this book only scratches the surface of the serial killers it profiles.

A let down

I waited many years to read this book and did so as a challenge to myself to get through more of the classics. I really don’t feel I was missing anything.

Maggie Gyllenhaal gave a disappointing performance. She reads in a monotone, and does not read the dialogue the way you would hope it would be read. Instead of having any distinguishing voices or tones, she reads the entire book the same way.
