Ok, but...
Revisado: 07-06-19
Too many logic bombs. I try to ignore the president’s son bomb. But the additive effect is tough. Bad guys have satellite phones, not good guys, not high tech company, not even American embassy, so have to drive to neighboring country? The bad guys get to top floor, no problem.
That said good writing nice action. Book just not at Greaney level.

Historia
When a joint FBI-Seattle Police investigation of an international child pornography ring gets too close to certain powerful people, sex-crimes detective Livia Lone becomes the target of a hit that barely goes awry - a hit that had been offered to John Rain, a retired specialist in "natural causes." Suspecting the FBI itself was behind the attack, Livia reaches out to former Marine sniper Dox. Together, they assemble an ad hoc group to identify and neutralize the threat. There’s Rain. Rain’s estranged lover, Mossad agent and honeytrap specialist Delilah.

Another good read
Revisado: 05-19-19
I've read all the John Rain books. If you liked the prior ones you'll like this one. I wouldn't disagree that there are maybe one too many love stories in this one. A little hard to believe coincidence between Rain's original target and Dox. Got a little sappy at times. Maybe one more draft to add a bit more suspense and proactive planning by Rain. But overall a fast-paced and engrossing read. The interplay between the characters was particularly entertaining - a couple laugh out loud moments; which is rare in this genre.
Eisler is certainly a great writer. But if he tires of that, he could always make a living narrating books. He's one of the best out there.

Not that complicated
Revisado: 10-07-18
I read a number of reviews about how complex the story was. I did not find it that bad at all. If you liked the prior books, you’ll like this one. I thought the story was pretty well crafted. I would’ve liked a more satisfying ending.

Mixed Feelings
Revisado: 08-07-18
Good writing. Good character development. I really like scotch and liked the setting of this story. The narrator did a really nice job - made you feel like you were there.
The story needed another couple drafts...A number of logic bombs. for example, I see a person outside my home spying on me, so I don't call the police and instead I take a sleeping pill??
Where was the editorial review? The author obviously talked with someone regarding the scotch business, but kept saying carbon monoxide. No!! it is carbon dioxide that is produced when making alcohol.
Lastly and most importantly the protagonist doesn't solve the mystery. Only through a series of unbelievable coincidences does she literally stubble onto the crooks who then explain everything with facts we hear for the first time.
It could have been sooo much better with another rewrite or two.

5 Stars, best in the series
Revisado: 08-03-18
Well done. well crafted. I think best story in the series so far. Very good plot, quite believable and timely. Perhaps a tad much at ending, but really good overall. Good pacing and balance, hard to put down. Liked the interaction between the characters.
Right up there with Gray Man and Orphan X.

Any additional comments?
If you like the grey man and Mitch Rapp, you will like this one. Authentic action. Right amount of technical detail. Good character development. Good plot, no logic bombs. Lot of action. A good protagonist, without character flaws and weaknesses to “make him human”. A very good first book. Certainly death wish on steroids. Will definitely get the next one.

A 5 star Read
Revisado: 02-06-18
Any additional comments?
The only other books I give 5 stars to are the the Gray Man series and the first Orphan X book, and now this one. I loved the Orphan X first book, a tad disappointed by the second book, but this one is as good as the first. Some great plot twists. No logic bombs. Hurwitz does a fantastic job balancing the action with the interpersonal. Plus this book has a decent ending with future promise. No "continued next week" ending gap.can't wait for the next one.

Historia
The irresistible David Freed’s first mystery is a stay-up-late-to-finish thriller. Based in sunny Rancho Bonita - “California’s Monaco”, as the city’s moneyed minions like to call it - Cordell Logan is a literate, sardonic flight instructor and aspiring Buddhist with dwindling savings and a shadowy past. When his beautiful ex-wife, Savannah, shows up out of the blue to tell him that her husband has been murdered in Los Angeles, Logan is quietly pleased. Savannah’s late husband, after all, is Arlo Echevarria, the man she left Logan for.

ISIS has detonated a massive bomb in the Marais district of Paris, and a desperate French government wants Gabriel to eliminate the man responsible before he can strike again.

Disappointing Story
Revisado: 08-02-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
spoiler alert.....Tough call. Well written as usual. But the plot is disappointing. Actually it is a great plot, but a very weak finish. You're left with the feeling - that's it?? For all the plotting they accomplish nothing, prevent nothing. Its one of those books where you suspect a weak finish and you check out how many chapters are left. This is like those unexpected "to be continued" TV shows. Just a set up for the next show/book.<br
What do you think your next listen will be?
Given how good the earlier books were, I will give the next one to try.
What three words best describe George Guidall’s performance?
Great as always
Was The Black Widow worth the listening time?
Nope. Could've been so much better. Could've had a least some success, accomplished something,
Any additional comments?
Hopefully Silva is not succumbing to "Clancy" disease and fading as he gets older.
