Amazing storytelling!

Normally, I can see events in plots coming, but this book pleasantly surprised me. It’s one of those books you don’t want to end and you don’t want to leave the characters at the end. Highly recommend.

Historia
Even through the roar and effervescence of the 1920s, everyone in New York has heard of Benjamin and Helen Rask. He is a legendary Wall Street tycoon; she is the daughter of eccentric aristocrats. Together, they have risen to the very top of a world of seemingly endless wealth—all as a decade of excess and speculation draws to an end. But at what cost have they acquired their immense fortune? This is the mystery at the center of Bonds, a successful 1937 novel that all of New York seems to have read. Yet there are other versions of this tale of privilege and deceit.

Excellent writing.

A lot of times I listen to audiobooks and the speaker really stands out. This time, the writing style stood out to me more than anything. It’s no wonder this won a Pulitzer. The flow of the language was masterful.
Aside from Diaz’s skill, I was surprised at how the build up to the entire finale—that is once you find out what the early parts are—was kind of not the revelation I was expecting. It’s worth the read, but was expecting a little more.

Historia
For the past few hundred years, most of what we’ve been taught about the native cultures of North America came from reports authored by the conquerors and colonizers who destroyed them. Now - with the technological advances of modern archaeology and a new perspective on world history - we are finally able to piece together their compelling true stories. In Ancient Civilizations of North America, Professor Edwin Barnhart, Director of the Maya Exploration Center, will open your eyes to a fascinating world you never knew existed - even though you’ve been living right next to it, or even on top of it.

Informative & Interesting
Revisado: 09-28-19
A great listen for me who had little knowledge on the subject. I had always wanted to know more, and now I do. It makes me think about how much else is hidden around our country that we have never really investigated. If you're interested in this subject this is a great place to start and visit the sites discussed. Don't forget to view the PDF that comes with the audio. I didn't view it until after I listened. It would have been nice to see it along the way with the depictions of what was discussed.
The performance was academic, but not dry by any means; appropriate for the subject matter.

Enjoyable for Both Old and New Fans
Revisado: 07-07-19
Overall, this was a good, quick listen. If you're a decades-long fan of Stevie Nicks, there is little new information here, but it is still an entertaining listen (audiobook) nonetheless. If you're a newer fan, this is a great introduction to Stevie Nicks's life and musical career.
The narrator was easy to listen to, and kept the material interesting. I'd recommend it for when you're not ready to commit to a longer read, but have a few hours you don't want to go to waste. And who ever tires of hearing about Stevie Nicks anyway?
I'm a long-time Stevie Nicks fan, so I'd heard much of the information presented before. But it was still nice to hear it in one linear timeline. The only thing to improve the work is to have made a longer study of each of her albums and include Stevie interviews with herself as speaker. Maybe the next one. :)

Definitely worth the listen.
Revisado: 07-04-18
Once again, Simon Vance delivers a great performance. What I like about his reading is that it’s not distracting. I recently listened to another book and the reader’s voice was so distracting it was hard to focus on the story. Vance’s different character voices were enjoyable.
As for the story, Anne Rice adds another entertaining tale to the Chronicles with all her trademarks. Excellent addition. Looking forward to the next installment.
