Historia
For Frank Harte, impoverished schoolteacher, January in London means a yearly fight to survive. A former soldier, his injuries have barred him from all but the lowest paid posts, and the cold incapacitates him still more. The chance to work as tutor to Viscount Gracewater, son of the famous big-game hunting Earl, comes as a lifeline to Frank. The Earl’s Knightsbridge mansion is huge, elegant - and, most temptingly, kept warm from basement to attics. Viscount “Scapegrace” Gracie, used to foreign climes, is delicate. But the Earl’s house is a dark one beneath its bright veneer.

Lovely prose, but not for me
Revisado: 07-31-21
I struggle with books that include suicide as a plot point without a trigger warning. Especially if it’s related to the character’s queerness. This is my first foray into Harper Fox’s work and it will be my last for that reason. But I did love the writing style. The romance itself didn’t quite work for me. I was hoping for a sweet and clandestine tryst between tutor and pupil. Instead, I had a hard time liking Gracie enough to want him to develop a relationship with Frank (who I liked a lot). This book had a gothic feel, which was so fun. I adore gothic novels. That’s why I gave it three stars. Otherwise, it wasn’t for me. The narration was fabulous, despite the limitations of the story.

Historia
Teddy: If there's one thing I don't do, it's commitment. You don't become an award-winning photographer by staying in one place. I'm always on the road, looking for the next shot, the next award, the next hot body. Which is how I end up on Dr. James Marian's front porch in the middle-of-nowhere Alaska. He's known as the Wildlife Whisperer, and I want to photograph him in action. He's reluctant at first, but I can be persuasive.

Historia
Starting over isn't easy, but Ben is ready to live his life as the man he was always meant to be. Ben is transgender and is back at the university after hormone treatment and chest surgery. His new housemates have no idea about his history, and Ben would prefer to keep it that way. He's starting from scratch, and his life is finally on track, except in the romance department. The idea of dating guys as a guy is exhilarating but terrifying, because if Ben wants a boyfriend he'll have to disclose his secret.

Funny and beautiful with a flawless narration
Revisado: 01-10-19
This is a smart, sexy, heartfelt book about two men falling in love, one of whom is transgender. This is my favorite romance I've read all year. It was fun, but also deep. My wife is transgender, and I rarely find romances that accurately portray what loving a transgender person is really like. This book is amazing. I haven't read the rest of the series, but I will now.
Lewis Carter was an amazing narrator too. I'll definitely be checking out his other work.

Sweet Protagonist and Decent Story
Revisado: 01-05-19
While there were a lot of word repetition problems and strange dialogue tags, I loved the main character, Pete, and the slow burn pacing worked. The narrator was great. Overall, an enjoyable read.

Poor Reader, Great Story
Revisado: 06-24-13
Would you consider the audio edition of The Testing to be better than the print version?
No. The female reader had an obnoxious male voice, and she made the story seem more juvenile.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The protagonist, Cia, had grit. But she was also vulnerable at times. I feel that she was able to hold on to who she was, despite the challenging circumstances. She was an interesting character to read about. I loved her family too.
Would you be willing to try another one of Elizabeth Morton’s performances?
No. I will steer clear of her in the future, choosing instead to read a book rather than listen to her.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely. Despite the bad reader, the story was thrilling. A great book for someone who enjoyed Hunger Games and Divergent.

Spellbinding
Revisado: 04-13-11
For those wanting something more after finishing "The Girl with the Dragon's Tatttoo" series, "The Informationist" will satisfy. While Lisbeth Salander gets her information by hacking, Michael (an androgynous woman with mad knife skills) has a knack for learning languages and blending into different cultures. This allows her to gather specialized information from even the most difficult sources. "The Informationist" also has that foreign feel of Lisbeth Salander's story because most of the book takes place in Africa, where Michael grew up. I found this book to be thoroughly entertaining. The narrator didn't rock my world, but she was entirely sufficient.

"Ninety-five days, and then I'll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don't."

Great Narrator
Revisado: 04-13-11
The narrator of this title made this book that much more clever and hilarious. It was poignant without being pretentious, and funny without resorting to cheap humor. A great read. I only gave it four stars because the plot dragged just a bit towards the end.

Historia
New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20s. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters—or Freaks—who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings.

On September 11, 1857, a band of Mormon militia, under a flag of truce, lured unarmed members of a party of emigrants from their fortified encampment and, with their Paiute allies, killed them. More than 120 men, women, and children perished in the slaughter.

Disappointing
Revisado: 03-24-11
Please understand that this book is written by three Mormons before you buy it. Their version of events is nauseatingly sympathetic to those who did the massacre, not those who were victims.
