Oddly sexist
Revisado: 04-07-21
Oddly sexist at several points. Some of the story was entertaining, some was tedious. All the characters are one dimensional (or zero dimensional), which usually doesn't bother me, but it was super obvious here.

Historia
What if you found a way to send something back in time? But not weeks, days, or even minutes back. What if you could only send something back a fraction of a second? Would this be of any use? You wouldn't have nearly enough time to right a wrong, change an event, or win a lottery. Nathan Wexler is a brilliant physicist who thinks he's found a way to send matter a split second back into the past. But before he can even confirm his findings, he and his wife-to-be, Jenna Morrison, find themselves in a battle for their very lives.

Racist and Islamophobic

I was enjoying this until the racist and Islamophobic rant a few chapters in. That's an automatic 'I'm done' for me.

Historia
'I don't much like working for clients. It means that I have to follow someone else's instructions, and I've never been too good at that. When those instructions came from a spirit guide at a seance, I just had to laugh. Well, you would, wouldn't you? The rather attractive young woman whose husband the spook had said I should help her to find took me on a quest that turned into a trail of lucrative antiques deals, spoiled only when the police came plodding in and I found myself up to my neck in forgeries and murders.'

Some books shouldn't be on audio.
Revisado: 05-14-17
I love the Lovejoy character, but unless you're doing absolutely nothing else while listening this will be difficult to follow. There's a thousand characters. Even relatively undistracted while driving I could barely follow.

Gripping
Revisado: 02-03-17
This was as entertaining as Grisham at his best; I couldn't put it down. I wish, however, that sexual violence against women wasn't such a popular trope in mystery thrillers. :(

I've read this many times. I love Blaylock. This one is uneven in its pacing, but I love it. Blaylock is the king of whimsical.

Historia
Two thousand years ago there lived a man who sold some valuable information for a fee of 30 silver coins. His name was Judas Iscariot, and he is no longer with us. The coins, however, still exist - and still hold an elusive power over all who claim them. Like Andrew, whose attempts at innkeeping bring in stranger business than he ever expected. And Aunt Naomi, whose most-prized family heirloom is a silver spoon - with a curiously ancient-looking engraving.

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

Amazing but repetitive
Revisado: 02-15-15
This is an amazing story about how almost everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Unfortunately that turns into a repetitive story line of attempt and disaster, attempt and disaster, etc.

Historia
An airliner’s controls abruptly fail mid-flight over the Atlantic. An oil tanker runs aground in Japan when its navigational system suddenly stops dead. Hospitals everywhere have to abandon their computer databases when patients die after being administered incorrect dosages of their medicine. In the Midwest, a nuclear power plant nearly becomes the next Chernobyl when its cooling systems malfunction. At first, these random computer failures seem like unrelated events.

Any additional comments?
Are you afraid of the internet? Are you afraid of Muslims? Do you think they're all wealthy, lust driven, oversexed patriarchs? Are you afraid they want to kill all Americans for amorphous reasons like that they just hate America (for no discernible reason other than that Americans have an apparently benign but substantial international influence)? If so, THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU! If you can stomach that nonsense, you might enjoy this reasonably paced thriller. The narrator does an excellent job, so that's something.
