Historia
Young Elly's world is shaped by those who inhabit it: her loving but maddeningly distractible parents; a best friend who smells of chips and knows exotic words like 'slag'; an ageing fop who tapdances his way into her home, a Shirley Bassey impersonator who trails close behind; lastly, of course, a rabbit called God. In a childhood peppered with moments both ordinary and extraordinary, Elly's one constant is her brother Joe. Twenty years on, Elly and Joe are fully grown and as close as they ever were. Until, that is, an earth-shattering event that threatens to destroy their bond for ever.

Another “Winman” Hit
Revisado: 09-25-23
I absolutely love Sarah Winman’s work both as a writer and as a narrator,
Her ability to write characters always leaves me open and vulnerable to learning their story. Ms. Winman writes about difficult topics with a truth, a gentle beauty, and an uncomplicated reality that allows you to hear what is happening but not dwell on upon it. In turn, your journey with the characters can move along too.
The themes she weaves throughout her books also allow many ‘ahh’ moments when you realise why a previous thought or sentence was hung on to. Lots of key moments, lots of resolution.
Another great book and Audible listen! Well done.

Historia
Two brothers meet at the remote fence line separating their cattle ranches in the lonely outback. In an isolated belt of Western Australia, they are each other’s nearest neighbor, their homes a four-hour drive apart. The third brother lies dead at their feet. Something caused Cam, the middle child who had been in charge of the family homestead, to die alone in the middle of nowhere. So the eldest brother returns with his younger sibling to the family property and those left behind. But the fragile balance of the ranch is threatened.

Kept Me Listening!
Revisado: 07-13-23
I thought this book was extremely well narrated which always helps with the flow.
In terms of the writing style I thought it was vivid with good character development. Jane Harper definitely captures the harshness of the climate and life in the very remotest areas of the outback.
The plot kept me guessing too.
The very end felt a little flat but I’d still recommend it.

Historia
Tuscany, 1944: As Allied troops advance and bombs fall around deserted villages, a young English soldier, Ulysses Temper, finds himself in the wine cellar of a deserted villa. There, he has a chance encounter with Evelyn Skinner, a middle-aged art historian who has come to Italy to salvage paintings from the ruins and recall long-forgotten memories of her own youth. In each other, Ulysses and Evelyn find a kindred spirit amidst the rubble of war-torn Italy, and set off on a course of events that will shape Ulysses's life for the next four decades.

Beautiful and Charming
Revisado: 07-13-23
I chose this book on a whim and I was not disappointed.
I was absolutely captivated. The writing style, the story, the character development and the setting of scenes were fabulous. So much life is poured in to this story. I found it quite moving.
It made me crave travel, friendship, good conversation and connection.
I will now be looking for more titles by Sarah Winman,
Narration by Sarah Winman was excellent too.

Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there.

This book needs to kill itself off!
Revisado: 07-13-23
Oh my gosh. One of the worst books I’ve read and/or listened to … ever.
The plot is like a paint by numbers story. The character development is almost non-existent.
The word count is made up by adding the floor the character was on in every single, short, chapter - ‘Mimi 4th floor’ etc.
The final ‘twist’ was beyond me. A total stretch that made the book even more unbelievable and lacklustre.
Good on Lucy Foley for cranking out another book and making some money during the pandemic but this is absolutely not her best work — it’s not even good work.
P.s. Narration was deeply irritating and made this book even more cringe worthy.

Beautifully recorded, paced and told. Time travelled, I got carried away with how quickly the time passed.
It had an air of believability, a sense of suspense and it was perfectly timed. Definitely recommend this for your free May download!
