Rachel explains huge problems so even my small mind can understand!

I love Rachel’s voice as she explains things so clearly. Her message - some years old by now - has been ignored as far as I can tell. I like that she recommends actions we might take to resolve the problems she describes, but I fear it has only gotten worse.

I just love every thing about these books!

What is it about these books that makes them so addictive? The stories, the author the flashes of humor, the well-drawn characters, the incredible knowledge of history or maybe the narrator? Perhaps it’s all of these. Put together it’s a great read. I do wonder if I would have enjoyed this book as much if I had not read the earlier books; there are lots of allusions to previous events that might be puzzling. So. Dear readers. I recommend you read them all!

Because Mrs Clinton served as Secretary of State, her knowledge , expertise and experience made this book believable. It's fiction, but has the ring of truth underlying the story. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Nostalgia awakened in this British heart!

I really enjoyed listening to this. If he hadn’t included the Goon Show I’d have been upset! Google What time is it Eccles? And you may join me in adoring these crazies. I know you can’t include everything, but there was a lot of sketch comedy on the radio in Britain that set the stage for the Goons, then Monty Python. And what about French and Saunders? On the whole, I really enjoyed the British episode.

A clear picture of muddy events

Director Comey gives a very clear picture of the events surrounding the election of President Trump. His focus is on the qualities of leadership and how he learned this throughout his life. A thoroughly readable book - I recommend it.

Bill Bryson is a hilarious, insightful writer

Would you consider the audio edition of Bill Bryson Collector's Edition to be better than the print version?

I enjoyed Bill Bryson's books in print and then re-enjoyed them in audio. The audio version feels more personal - like a friend telling of his experiences.

What other book might you compare Bill Bryson Collector's Edition to and why?

This book is a compilation of three books - about his tour of England, of europe, and then of his return to the US after 20 years away. He is incomparable!

What about Bill Bryson’s performance did you like?

Bill Bryson has the ability to take a small detail and increase its importance so that you can see it in all its complexity, and, often, ridiculousness. He sounds like a friend.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

On his return after 20 years to the US, he was able to see his native land as a stranger might see it, and helps us to see ourselves in all our nonsensical, annoying, irritating, infuriating,and sometimes lovable ways. For instance, he turns his spotlight on the cultural change away from smoking due to the fear of second-hand smoke. And yet, we tolerate guns everywhere. How many people die of second hand smoke? And how many gunshots? How sensible are we to ban smoking in public and allow guns?

Bryson has insights that clarify things, no matter what he is writing about. He seems to know everything!

Need to read the prequels

I found the"alternate universe" premises in this book amusing, charming and delightful. However, it is the fifth book in the series, and I could not figure out lots of it. I have since bought and read the previous four books in the Thursday Next series, and am enjoying this one much more. A fine trip into a fantasy world.
