Historia
Jenn Corbin appeared to have it all: two dear little boys, a posh home in one of the upscale suburbs of Atlanta, expensive cars, a plush houseboat, and a husband - Dr. Bart Corbin, a successful dentist - who was tall, handsome, and brilliant. But gradually, their seemingly idyllic life together began to crumble. Bart was distraught and Jenn seemed disenchanted. Then, just a few weeks before Christmas 2004, Jenn was found dead with a bullet in her head, an apparent suicide....

Not my favorite narrator
Revisado: 08-21-23
Tried listening to this in the car and narrator sounds congested and trails off at the end of sentences. Missed a lot over the sound of the engine so just opting to return and try an Ann Rule with a different narrator.

Historia
From the hero whistleblower of the infamous Theranos scam, Thicker than Water is a look at never-before-revealed details behind closed doors at the company, revealing a cautionary tale of corporate bullying, gaslighting, ego, and wealth running amok in Silicon Valley. Tyler Shultz had been in the workforce for less than a year when he emailed Elizabeth Holmes, his employer and the CEO and founder of Theranos, with concerns that the company’s lab practices were faulty, ignored quality control, and were potentially dangerous to patients.

Interesting story but not new
Revisado: 11-28-22
The Theranos story is really interesting, but it’s been told in many other ways. It’s nice to get an insider view, but narration is not very good. Nervous laugh after nearly every other uttered phrase, gets really annoying. Also he seems to hold himself up as an innocent voice who spoke out against Theranos, but my interpretation is that he was part of the problem and either was the whistleblower who didn’t own up to it or wasn’t the whistleblower but tries to make it sound like he was. Also, this really isn’t an audiobook, it’s more like a podcast. So it’s not actually written prose that’s fact-checked and verified like a normal nonfiction book, which is ironic, because that’s what he’s accusing Theranos of.

This book needs a hook point!
Revisado: 10-29-22
This book talks about some different examples of hook points, but it needs a hook point itself! Really dry, really boring. And I normally love author-read books, but there is just no energy here, super flat.

Is this Apple’s story or Fadell’s?
Revisado: 06-09-22
Fadell reads the introduction and explains that we wouldn’t want us to hear him read the rest. But I think you lose a lot with a professional narrator. It comes across as arrogant and disingenuous to me. Also, having worked at Apple around the same time, I found it uncomfortable to listen to someone take credit for and then give out advice as if he had done it all himself. He was an important part of Apple’s success, no doubt, but at least some of the lessons he said he learned, were actually figured out by Jobs and team. There were some moments of enlightenment and I liked hearing about his time before Apple. But the actual advice were things I had heard before.

It’s simply good!
Revisado: 12-12-21
The storytelling in this book is perfect. It has good pace, good character development and gives you just enough information to be a detective too. Characters have their flaws, so you can try to figure out the mystery. I like that nothing is extreme in this story. It’s simple and well written. And the narrator really brings the characters to life without sounding corny or overdoing it. Perfect combination of story and narration!

Good content, bad narration Part 2
Revisado: 06-06-19
As a book, I'm sure this would've been a good read. The content is good and the approach to learning Japanese is a little bit different than traditional methods, and I found it helpful. As an audiobook, I found it difficult to listen to. The narrator is not a professional narrator but the author himself, who mumbles at times, speaks too softly at times, breathes loudly at times. It's distracting and I can only take so much of it. I'll get the eBook if there is one and ditch this audiobook.
