Historia
Sam Carlson is a projectionist in small-town Minnesota, where fantasies unspool in glorious black and white—for him and for his sweetheart, college-bound math whiz Sarah Haber. When the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor, Sam is sent to the Philippines and captured as a POW. Brutalized but unbroken by the Bataan Death March and POW camps, Sam is one of eighteen hundred starved and weakened prisoners herded into the cargo hold of a barbaric hell ship called the Arisan Maru, his survival doubtful.

This story is about faith, love, friendship and determination in the most deplorable conditions. So many heroes in so many different ways...tremendous narration and writing in this book. Definitely worth a credit!

The 3 characters so different and so beautifully written
Revisado: 03-17-25
I loved this story and when it ended I was sad and disappointed. I understand how family doesn't always mean blood relatives, and that family is so much more but I would have liked to know for certain who Kel's bio father was. I also wanted it not to end as I was looking forward to Yolanda's baby being born. Arthur's character was so wonderfully described that I found myself wanting him for my family or friend! I am so glad in the end he had his own group of family and was no longer alone.

Historia
To the outside world, they seem to have it all. Cassie Barrett, a renowned anthropologist, and Alex Rivers, one of Hollywood's hottest actors, met on the set of a motion picture in Africa. They shared childhood tales, toasted the future, and declared their love in a fairy-tale wedding. But when they return to California, something alters the picture of their perfect marriage. A frightening pattern is taking shape - a cycle of hurt, denial, and promises, thinly veiled by glamour.

Very good as usual...Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors. The book isn't just about one thing, there's always many different levels which is something I enjoy.

The story really made me think
Revisado: 01-31-25
I listened to this book 3x now and I really love it. The story makes you think about the situation in a different way. Most would think the main couple is a product of pedophilia but some people, myself, is thinking this is just a very different very real love story. I actually don't know if there's an answer however it makes good conversation. Narration is spot on.

In a town that thrives on gossip, Jennie’s fall from grace has shamed her mother, set the town buzzing, and caused old, jealous enemies to whisper in delight. They say she’s taken a job as a housekeeper, gotten a garage apartment, and might be crushing on Rick Lawson, a simple farmer with modest dreams.

l love those stories that take place in a small town. I also love the sometimes laughing sometimes crying in these stories. I'm sure anyone could figure out the direction of this ending however, it was still well written and not boring and most importantly it ended with a great ending.

The fact that I had no clue what this was about...
Revisado: 09-17-24
I started to cry pretty early in the story when I found out one of the main characters had Parkinson disease. I previously lost my mother 3 years ago with this disease. Then I cried even harder when I found out the character with PD wanted to go leave the world on her terms which was also something my mother wanted to do. This book tore me up. its a beautiful love story but hit a little too close to home for me, I wasn't ready yet. I finished it, and loved it!

Walking Dead but different!
Revisado: 08-15-24
Book 2 of The Black Winter... Wow book 2 was better than 1 if that's even possible. I absolutely love it! The wait list for the next book is too long they Libby so I'm using another credit. Narration is excellent, the story line is similar to Walking Dead but different in its own way. I love Claire and Dorran (mostly Dorran) his simplicity is so refreshing they go perfectly together. This book took less than a day for me to listen to- I really need to think of a way to make it last longer. My husband likes it too which is very rare. I listen at night when we go to bed. Well, if you like TWD you'll def like this. I'm heading for book 3 right now!

Everything!
Revisado: 07-11-24
This is one of those books you can't stop listening to but yet you don't want it to end but you think "just one more chapter" then all the sudden it's over. I loved the characters, the mystery, the times I laughed and the tears I shed as well. The only negative thing I could say was about the narrator's tone at times in fact I ALMOST returned it. I started it over and was able to understand once I got used to him. I'm so glad as this book is definitely one I'll listen to again and again.

When Brian Holloway (Jack Quaid, The Boys) was hired by famous horror author Paul Robinette (Titus Welliver, Bosch) to crack an antique safe in his home, he had no idea what he was about to encounter. Opening that safe door unleashed something sinister — something that continues to haunt him. But what exactly? And can whatever slipped through that threshold be stopped?
