Historia
Genevieve Aubert, a seven-hundred-year-old witch from a powerful familial line, has become more than a formidable ally. To Rowan, she’s become a friend. To Darius, a Dust Devil from the Trick, where she’s now a priestess, she’s the key to unlocking his magic. The pretty flower to his motorcycles and bruised knuckles. Soon, the dangerous reality becomes clear. It isn’t just wayward witches. It isn’t just egotistical Vampires. What’s brewing in the desert will take a witch, a Dust Devil and a human vessel to a goddess to save those they’ve sworn to protect.

Still a favorite
Revisado: 10-02-23
First, I want to say, I loved it! I have been following this series since the beginning and I am so glad that we FINALLY have another entry. I have anxiously awaited more information about the Dust Devils and had my fingers crossed for a Genevieve and Darius hook up. THANK YOU for giving us characters of color with interesting back stories that are not some overdone unrealistic cliche. That alone made the book worth reading. Add in our smack talking, hard hitting, take no BS ‘little goddess’ Rowan and her very proper main squeeze Clive and you had me from the first page. And, thank you for giving this writing thing another try. I love your work and look forward to reading the next installment.

Historia
Brought to us by the Drabs, it was the last thing we expected. But the Drabs knew. They even fought a war over whether or not they should save us. In the end, it was decided that we were diseased insects who were unfit to breathe their air. So they left the human race to die a miserable death of agonizing pain in a matter of months. Left us with no doctors or medicine. Their plan was to rid the earth of us and to take our home as their own. What they never expected was the change that would come after the plague. We didn't all die off as they'd planned.

Great story. I love Ms. Kenyon/McQueen’s writing and have followed her for years. This novella is no exception. I did think ‘the kiss’ was a lot premature and presumptuous. But still love the story and would love to see it turned to a full length novel.
On a side note…Sorry to hear about the tragedy of your divorce and the emotional trauma you suffered. Hope you are getting back in your feet. Stay out of Tennessee! Bad juju there for you.

I really like Sherrilyn Kenyon’s books and I especially enjoyed the writing and handling of the same sex relationship. I deeply cared about Ture and Maris and was pleased that they found their happily ever after.

Historia
Jane Yellowrock is the queen of the vampires, and that makes her a target as she fights to maintain control and keep peace in the city of New Orleans. She has enemies at every turn, because vampires live forever, and they keep their grudges alive with them. That includes the Heir, the vampire sire of the Pellissier bloodline, which gave rise to Leo Pellissier himself—Jane’s old boss and the former master of the city.

Great end to an epic story
Revisado: 03-27-23
Like others, I waited to read this book because I did not want the story to end. It was fantastic and maybe a little sad because I will miss Jane/Beast, Bruiser, the Youngers, and Leo. and all the other amazing characters. Thank you Faith Hunter for years of amazing reading and fantastic characters that I loved/hated in appropriate measure. Thank you for people of color who made up an amazing supporting cast worthy of their own short stories (hint, hint).
It has been a great journey and now I have to start from the beginning and read the entire series all over again. Maybe by the time I am done you will throw me a few more crumbs.
Bravo!!!!

I enjoyed the story.
Some readers found it to be “insta love” but I disagree. Nora and Liam have been circling each other for three books. It was about time they got together romantically. I liked it and can’t wait for all the secrets to be revealed.

I have been reading this series since the first book was published. In the main book series many thinks were alluded to or glossed over so it’s nice to have a “fill in the blanks” book. I enjoyed this book just as much as the others.

One look at Jericho Forge, and I knew the rumors were true. He was a predator, and he had set his sights on me. I knew better than to bet more than I could afford to lose that night. I knew better than to bet myself. But desperation leads to bad decisions, and I thought there was no way I could lose. I was wrong. Now I have no choice but to make a deal with the devil....

I tried, again
Revisado: 04-19-19
Loved the story and did not mind the cliffhanger. Loved Joe Arden's narration, as always. Strongly disliked, Erin Mallon's narration. This is the second series from Megan March that Erin Mallon has narrated. I did not enjoy her narration of the Sin series. So much so that I gave up on even trying to listen to her constant whining at the beginning of the second book. I just read the books. But, I thought I should give her another chance, perhaps I was too quick to judge. I started listening to this book on my way to work, a 30 min drive. By the time I got to work, all of the whining in the narration made me want to rip out my speakers. Second chance, failed. There will be no third chance.
Clearly, I do not like Ms. Mallon's narration. I have now added her to the 'do not buy, ever' list. Sorry Erin, don't take it personal.
I liked the story so I will read the books. But, I BEG you to please find a different person for the female narration.

Historia
Ten years ago, Whitney Gable caught me off guard with her long legs and grab-you-by-the-balls blue eyes. I didn't know or care what her name was. Like any Riscoff worth the family name, I went after what I wanted. We burned like a flash fire until she married another man. She hates me, and she should. I objected on her wedding day. Now she's home, with those same long legs and man-eater stare, but there's no ring on her finger. They say a Riscoff and a Gable can never live happily ever after, but I'm not done with Whitney Gable.

just ok
Revisado: 04-19-19
First, let me say that I find Megan March's books to be a great vacation read. Hot. Steamy. Just enough realism to make things enjoyable, but not so much that I am out looking for a hot billionaire or a real criminal. This book was a little disappointing because I really felt like the push/pull between the main characters went on way too long. Thus only 3 stars for the story. BUT the thing that really made me dislike it was the reading by Erin Mallon. I am sure she is a wonderful person, but her reading almost drove me insane. The way she adds drawn out syllables and a little whine/breathy sigh at the end of almost every sentence, and especially when says the name of the female lead at the beginning of every chapter grated on my nerves. Whitneyyyyaaa. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Argh! It just sounds like whining to me, AND SHE WHINED THROUGH THE ENTIRE BOOK. Maybe she was trying to sound seductive, and that is just her thing. I hated it and found it distracting. For that reason alone, I gave the performance two stars. Both of those stars go to Joe Arden, he was great as always.

It was...sigh..WONDERFUL
Revisado: 11-07-18
I have never read/listened to a book quite like this. It was poetic, and poignant, and lyrical, and well written, and everything wonderful in a romantic literary work. It was so good I stayed up late, ignored work, ignored food, ignored my husband and simply listened and then re-read this book just to see if the words on the page could be as good as the spoken text. And it was! It is honestly the very best book that I have read all year. Many have already read/listened, but for those of you holding out, please don't. You may be a little leery of same sex relationships, but this is so wonderfully written and presented that you are truly depriving yourself of a fantastic romance and so much more. Don't sacrifice, take the plunge. It is soooo worth it.

One of my favorits
Revisado: 02-09-17
What did you love best about Shield of Winter?
Vasic has been one of my favorite characters of the series. To see him get such a passionate happily ever after, was very satisfying.
What other book might you compare Shield of Winter to and why?
In this series I also LOVED: Slave to Sensation, Play of Passion, Hostage to Pleasure, Kiss of Snow and Shards of Hope. All the others were good, but these were my favorites and I have read and listened to each more than three times.
What about Angela Dawe’s performance did you like?
I have listened for a few of Angela Dawe's books and for the most part I like her reading. Sometimes I feel that she can get a little whiney (think True to the Highlander, her pronunciation of Maaaalcolm almost drove me crazy, I couldn't even finish the recording) haven't figured out why yet. But, this reading and her readings of the other books in this series was fine.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No, I did not have an extreme reaction, probably because I have read the book so many times, and loved each reading, that all of the text is well rehearsed for me. But, I do think that the emotional scenes were well done.
Any additional comments?
Loved the book and enjoyed the reading.
