Historia
One of the most feared Chicago mobsters, Sam Giancana, clawed his way to the top of the Mafia hierarchy by starting as a hit man for Al Capone. He was known as one of the best vehicle escape artists, a tenacious business man, and a ruthless killer. He partied with major stars such as Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe and did business with agents ranging from the CIA to the Vatican to the shah of Iran. When politician Joe Kennedy gave Giancana the chance to use mob muscle to get his son John elected, Giancana jumped at the task.

Great story, but also sad
Revisado: 03-29-25
The description of their childhood is brutal, so it's not surprising that Sam Giancana turned out to be vicious.

Historia
Detective Michael Palermo built his career on his unique ability to inhabit two worlds at once: the world of law enforcement and the underworld of New York’s crime family organizations. Palermo participated in over 2,000 arrests while maintaining close relationships with the kingpins of organized crime - ties that allowed him to stay one step ahead of the rest of the New York City Police Department. This true crime drama takes you inside the police force at its most corrupt.

BORING
Revisado: 11-26-24
The narrator is monotone, does not understand the nuances of speech, he's just not good. The story itself is even worse. Nothing interesting. Very disjointed storytelling. Just bad all around.

Historia
This is the true story of Carmine Imbriale—a gambler, a brawler, a bandit, a bookie, an enforcer. For two decades, Imbriale was a street-level operative in one of the most violent crews in the Colombo Family. Now in hiding, Imbriale teams up with true-crime veteran writer Craig McGuire to take you inside the Thirteenth Avenue rackets at the height of their violence. This is the jarring account of his lawless lifestyle culminating in a gang war in South Brooklyn, from which he emerges a survivor.

Great book
Revisado: 10-11-24
I love that it flows easily. It's not pretentious, it's real stories from a real guy told the way things happened.

Historia
For fans of Tina Fey and David Sedaris - Internet star Jenny Lawson, aka The Bloggess, makes her literary debut. Jenny Lawson realized that the most mortifying moments of our lives - the ones we'd like to pretend never happened - are in fact the ones that define us. In Let's Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson takes readers on a hilarious journey recalling her bizarre upbringing in rural Texas, her devastatingly awkward high school years, and her relationship with her long-suffering husband, Victor.

Jenny Lawson is FANTASTIC
Revisado: 01-18-13
Where does Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is one of the best books I've listened to. Jenny gives a superb performance and the book wouldn't be the same if she wasn't the narrator. This book can be funny, honest, a little sad, but it is always good.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Victor. He not only goes along with Jenny's "madness", he loves her for it.
Any additional comments?
Buy it, listen to it, you won't be disappointed. Unless you're a prude.
