Historia
Alex Sand was spending the evening at home playing basketball with his two young sons when all three were shot in cold blood. A wealthy federal judge, there’s no short list of people who could have a vendetta against Sands, but the gruesome murders, especially that of his children, turn their St. Paul community on its head. Sand was on the verge of a major donation to a local housing charity, Heart/Twin Cities, and with the money in limbo, eyes suddenly turn to his grieving widow, Margaret Cooper, to see what she might do with the money.

Not my favorite narrator
Revisado: 10-27-23
The story was good, but I got distracted by the “Lucas” “Virgil” to introduce each speaker. Good readers don’t need that. We already know the characters and can follow conversations. It was like reading a play: announcing each character’s name

Historia
Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She has a good job as a defense attorney, a daughter doing well in school, and even her divorce is relatively civilized - her life is just as unremarkable as she’d always hoped it would be. But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood that was far from average...a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and finally torn apart by a devastating act of violence.

Great story if
Revisado: 09-29-23
This book was a great listen if (as you should when reading fiction) you are willing to suspend belief in some parts of the story that seem a bit contrived. I prefer novels where the authors do not try to awake social consciousness; however, the author states that is what she wanted to do. I listen as an escape from the ugliness of parts of society. So I will continue to listen to her books.

Get rid of the music
Revisado: 11-01-22
I have read all of connelly’s books and wait anxiously for a new one. I hated this production. Most avid readers create a movie in their minds while they read. I was lost in the story and the music would start and I be looking around to see what was left on or from where it was coming. When I read an actual book there is no music. What was the point of a soundtrack to a book. It was so distracting. If this becomes a trend, I will cancel my audible ( where I have listened to 325 books since I joined) and will start with library books again.
Sorry, Mr Connelly, but the music was a bad decision.

Historia
For as long as Lucia Gomez has been the police chief in the city of Highland Isle, near Kindle County, she has known that any woman in law enforcement must walk a precarious line between authority and camaraderie to gain respect. She has maintained a spotless reputation—until now. Three male police officers have accused her of soliciting sex in exchange for promotions to higher ranks. With few people left who she can trust, Chief Gomez turns to an old friend, Rik Dudek, to act as her attorney in the federal grand jury investigation.

Not what I expect from Turrow
Revisado: 10-23-22
I was excited when this book was released ; however, it didn’t take long for disappointment to take over. It’s like an average writer tried to imitate Turow’s writing. Cliches and a mediocre story were nothing like the author’s earlier work.

Historia
The first time violinist Julia Ansdell picked up the "Incendio Waltz" in a darkened antique shop in Rome, she knew it was a strikingly unusual composition. The minor key and complex feverish arpeggios have a life of their own. But when she plays the piece, Julia blacks out and awakens to find her small daughter implicated in acts of surprising violence. When she travels to Venice to find the previous owner of the music, she uncovers a heart-stoppingly dark secret....

Disappointing

Rather maudlin predicable story. Not what I expected from this author. Ok for historical fiction blended with a modern story but no mystery rather trite ending

A great read
Revisado: 10-06-21
I wasn’t sure I was going to like this. I’m not a fan of early King, but I found Revival to be wonderful and I enjoyed Mr Mercedes. It took a good while for me to enjoy the book about Kennedy. I thought the same about this book, but once I let the story “find me,” I thoroughly enjoyed it. I like this Stephen King. I have always recognized his talent but a wisdom or philosophy that runs through this book was very satisfying. Perhaps because I am older that appealed to me.

Good entertainment
Revisado: 02-28-20
I enjoy Scott Brick’s narration. He doesn’t try to be a different voice for every character. Just a nice, rich voice that lets my imagination create character voices. This was my first book by this author and while it wasn’t Connelly or Child it was a good story

Historia
When Marshall McEwan left his hometown at age 18, he vowed never to return. The trauma that drove him away ultimately spurred him to become one of the most successful journalists in Washington DC. But just as the political chaos in the nation’s capital lifts him to new heights, Marshall is forced to return home in spite of his boyhood vow. His father is dying, his mother is struggling to keep the family newspaper from failing, and the town is in the midst of an economic rebirth that might be built upon crimes that reach into the state capitol - and perhaps even to Washington.

This was absolutely his best book. The story was great - twist and turns and surprises. I was never bored. However, the writing is excellent. Some beautiful sentences that took my breath away. Once he fell into a cliche but only once. Love and loss and the reality of life. Incredible

Too much thinking
Revisado: 11-15-18
I am a Jack Reacher fan. I have read every book. This one was a little disappointing. The two halves took a long time to intertwine and way too much time was spent in Reacher’s head. It got tedious listening to all the ‘could be this-could be that.’
For another author maybe a great book, for Lee Child a bit disappointing.
