I’ve been sadly disappointed with Patterson’s books for the past few years. It seems like he is just dialing it in or letting others write the story.

Heartbreaking!
Revisado: 11-16-23
I have to say, I would’ve preferred the title, quotation “unaccompanied minor” or “friends lovers in the big terrible waste.” it completely breaks my heart and frustrates me that we have not found a way to fully treat for addiction. I highly recommend listening, or reading, this book. Matthew Perry does a wonderful job, even though his words sound slurry and parts, and it was probably really difficult for him to get through. If you have anyone in your life, that’s addicted to anything, it is certainly worth the read. It’s challenging to listen to the story, because it affected and harmed so many people in its week. Just the amount of stress, effort he put on himself, and every person in this life answers the near aspects of addiction. If you have an addict in your life, I would recommend listening - to this audio and to them. What deep hole are they trying to fill?

Besides the fact that this announcement is a complete surprise (to say the least), what shocks Lillie most is that she isn't...heartbroken. She's furious. Lillie has loved her life on Cape Cod, but as a mother, wife and nurse-midwife, she's used to caring for other people...not taking care of herself.

Meh
Revisado: 03-11-23
I almost returned this book because of the narratorHer voice is so whiny. I once I got into it, hoping the story would get better, it was too late. The ending was good, but the overly detailed complaining about aspects of the storyline went on and on and on. At times, I would fast forward, just trying to get to the meat
of the story. This was not among favorites that I will listen to
again sometime.

Enjoyable-Yet Long!
Revisado: 02-06-23
As always, I enjoyed Stephen King’s writing, and Seth Numrich did a great job narrating. I’m a huge fan of the connection between historic fairytale and world literature, so I found this, especially interesting. However, it was really, really long. I found myself disconnecting here and there, which was unfortunate, because I do want to keep present for the story.

Enjoyably Unbelievable
Revisado: 09-11-22
I enjoy all of the Goldy Schultz books, but find it concerning that a person would take so much abuse from people! Supporting characters are so rude, selfish and ridiculous, that I’m torn between stress that she allows it and laughing from the absurdity that so many people can be so mean. And what woman could survive all the physical trauma and injuries she endured in each book? How can she cook and serve multiple course meals while solving crimes in such injured states. Still-great fun.

A Christmas Fairytale of Sorts
Revisado: 11-13-21
As I am a sucker for a cheesy Christmas Hallmark movie, I really did like this book. The only thing I struggled with, (spoiler alert), was believing a sister could be so horrible as stacy was in the story. Other than that, I had a nice surprise! I didn’t have the whole thing figured out as I was reading. That’s always a pleasure.

It's been too long since the entire Quinn family has been able to celebrate the holidays under the same roof, but that's about to change. With Bart back safe and sound from Afghanistan, the Quinns are preparing for a holiday more joyous than any they've experienced in years. And Bart's safe return isn't the family's only good news: Kevin is enjoying married life with Isabelle; Patrick is getting back on his feet after paying his debt to society; Ava thinks she's finally found the love of her life; and Kelly is thrilled to see his family reunited at last.

Unbelievable, Oddly Engaging
Revisado: 10-26-21
The story itself is as unbelievable as a soap opera. That being said, sometimes a soap opera can be fun. I listen to all four of the books, because even though I found it frustrating at times, I wanted to see it through. The narrator did a great job -even with all the “he says/she says,” which was also very irritating! There are other words such as replied, asserted, responded, etc.
I think it was the characters that I found most annoying or Ava, Mitsy, Kelly and Jennifer. (Spoiler Alert from here) Ava! Is anyone really that indecisive? Ava kept using men like outfits to be tried on. But the most unbelievable was the way she treated her boyfriend’s autistic child. Really? Supposedly she’s a professional elementary school teacher with about 10 years of experience. In this day and age, you have some pretty good training about the needs of autistic children. She has to be one of the worst, most ridiculously inept teachers that I’ve ever come across. The way she treated him and spoke about him was sadly selfish and unprofessional! Mitsy, rhymes with ditsy for a reason. How do you have an affair with an old man in a Santa Claus suit for 12 years and leave your wonderful husband of 20 years for him-then return to your husband in time for the following Christmas? And Kelly, seriously? What self-respecting man is that big of a pushover. He catches his wife making out with Santa Claus and they ask him to leave the room and he does. In his own house. And then whimpers away while they totally take advantage of him all through Christmas. After a year, he quickly takes her back? And then there’s Jennifer. An Ivy League educated woman, who doesn’t communicate with her husband, is super forgiving about his felony in prison sentence, but doesn’t think she could talk to him about a pill addiction? Really? And they have a good marriage? I don’t see it. All in all it was fun because it was so absolutely ridiculous! I played one of the books in the car with my husband, who is a good writer. He laughed and said, although it was some of the worst writing he’d ever encountered, he was entertained. So, do you want to spend 4 credits on this? If I could go back, probably not.

Disappointing treatment of autism
Revisado: 09-09-21
I was very interested to see how the author dealt with the inclusion of an autistic child in the story. Overall, the story was interesting and showed insight into a dysfunctional family with three sisters having the same father retuning to spend summer with their grandmother as they had done as children. A great basis for a story. However, I was very disturbed with how this nine-year-old autistic child was treated. The author and the characters seem to place value of an injured dolphin above that of an emotionally injured child. After the child was being greeted for behavior he was not responsible for, there was no resolution or healing for that child. Everything became centered on the main character in the dolphin. Up until that point I enjoyed the book. But, as I kept waiting for someone to attend to the feelings of this poor little boy, I was grossly disappointed. I think if the author is going to write about autism, she needs to learn more about it.
