Historia
At the root of human conflict is our fundamental misunderstanding of who we are. The illusion that we are isolated beings, unconnected to the rest of the universe, has led us to view the “outside” world with hostility, and has fueled our misuse of technology and our violent and hostile subjugation of the natural world. To help us understand that the self is in fact the root and ground of the universe, Alan Watts provides us with a much-needed answer to the problem of personal identity, distilling and adapting the Hindu philosophy of Vedanta.

Historia
Thirteen hundred gates have opened to solar systems around the galaxy. But as humanity builds its interstellar empire in the alien ruins, the mysteries and threats grow deeper. In the dead systems where gates lead to stranger things than alien planets, Elvi Okoye begins a desperate search to discover the nature of a genocide that happened before the first human beings existed and to find weapons to fight a war against forces at the edge of the imaginable. But the price of that knowledge may be higher than she can pay.

Oh S***, it’s going down again!
Revisado: 10-06-24
Amazing pacing, the authors have done it again and pulled me even deeper into the web of intrigue that is the Expanse series. Jefferson Mays knocks it out with his narration as always. If you’ve loved the series so far, don’t stop now!

Historia
The fifth book in the NYT best-selling Expanse series, Nemesis Games drives the crew of the Rocinante apart, and as they struggle to survive, the inner planets fall victim to an enemy's catastrophic plan. A thousand worlds have opened, and the greatest land rush in human history has begun. As wave after wave of colonists leave, the power structures of the old solar system begin to buckle. Ships are disappearing without a trace. Private armies are being secretly formed. The sole remaining protomolecule sample is stolen.

Slick story, a neat turn for the series.
Revisado: 07-18-24
This book is just so great. If you like the series so far, there’s more to like here. I like that this entry follows the crew of the Rocinante more closely this time around. A cool change of pace compared to other books in the series, each character has their own chapters and perspective on the central conflict. “Come on gang, let’s split up!” Great narration as always. A gem of a read.

Historia
The fourth book in the NYT best-selling Expanse series, Cibola Burn sees the crew of the Rocinante on a new frontier, as the rush to colonize the new planets threatens to outrun law and order and give way to war and chaos. Enter a new frontier. "An empty apartment, a missing family, that's creepy. But this is like finding a military base with no one on it. Fighters and tanks idling on the runway with no drivers. This is bad juju. Something wrong happened here. What you should do is tell everyone to leave".

More interstellar drama, for better or for worse
Revisado: 07-12-24
Loved this one by the end just as much as others in the series, it just kind of dragged a bit in the middle. Excellent narration as ever, great world building, funny and compelling characters who drive the story, do recommend to fans of the series, ready to pick up the next one.

Historia
The second book in the NYT best-selling Expanse series, Caliban's War shows a solar system on the brink of war, and the only hope of peace rests on James Holden and the crew of the Rocinante's shoulders. We are not alone. On Ganymede, breadbasket of the outer planets, a Martian marine watches as her platoon is slaughtered by a monstrous supersoldier. On Earth, a high-level politician struggles to prevent interplanetary war from reigniting. And on Venus, an alien protomolecule has overrun the planet, wreaking massive, mysterious changes.

A great second story
Revisado: 06-20-24
Following the first book, I am pleased to find the second keeps up the familiar pacing and excellent character work of the first. Different political backbone than the first, and new drama as the characters have grown over time. The story is character driven and excellently told, and nothing feels forced for the sake of story. The voice of the narrator gives every character an affective depth, and helps me feel connected to them. If you liked the first, you’ll like this one too.

Historia
God is change. That is the central truth of the Earthseed movement, whose unlikely prophet is 18-year-old Lauren Olamina. The young woman's diary entries tell the story of her life amid a violent 21st-century hell of walled neighborhoods and drug-crazed pyromaniacs - and reveal her evolving Earthseed philosophy. Against a backdrop of horror emerges a message of hope: if we are willing to embrace divine change, we will survive to fulfill our destiny among the stars.

Great narrator, good story
Revisado: 05-30-24
Glad to have had this recommended. Looking forward to the sequels. Fascinating novel of a future America in steep decline from the point of view of a female main character. Tough themes, largely realistic. Believable characters, who drive the story, rather than relying on deus ex machina.
