Decent story let down by bad production

The story is pretty good. Not my favorite in the series but still a good story.

The “audio” part of the audiobook leaves a lot to be desired. The narrator/reader did a good job. I don’t really have any problems with Victor Bevine’s reading. The production quality is, frankly, crap. The EQ mix on the audio is off, I had to have the whole book cranked on full volume just to hear the subtleties in the reader’s voice. Parts of the audio sound like terrible ADR work. There are dozens or awkward silences where the editor clearly spliced two different takes together but left 3+ seconds of silence in the middle of a sentence.

I gave the Performance category 3 stars because I don’t want some automated system to take it out on Victor. If I could separate out “reader’s performance” and “production quality” they would get 4.5 stars and 0.5 stars respectively.

Wonderfully researched and written. Eye opening and scary.

I will also say that while I would have preferred to hear it Michael read it himself (for the first 15% of the book I was hearing Michael’s voice in my head repeating the narrator), I still think the narrator was rather good.
