Historia
The Restoration began in the spring of 1820, when Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in a grove of trees in upstate New York. Joseph had questions, and Jesus had answers. That was 200 years ago. As the Restoration enters its third century, the world has new questions. A loving God has answers. In Restoration, scholar and author Patrick Mason reflects on what it means for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to participate in the ongoing Restoration.

great insight!
Revisado: 10-31-21
this came highly recommended to me and I'm glad I spent the time to read it. I especially liked his ideas on finding Gospel light in other religions and how other religions have contributed to the word of god. many of them are much better at specific tasks than we are. the author also speaks about helping bring about the restoration by helping your fellow man. he gave specific examples of helping refugees. how can we just help others like us and ignore the plight of the rest of the world?

Historia
Things My Son Needs to Know About the World collects the personal dispatches from the front lines of one of the most daunting experiences any man can experience: fatherhood. As he conveys his profound awe at experiencing all the “firsts” that fill him with wonder and catch him completely unprepared, Fredrik Backman doesn’t shy away from revealing his own false steps and fatherly flaws, tackling issues both great and small, from masculinity and midlife crises to practical jokes and poop.

this book is funny, touching, and so true! I loved his insight into Parenthood. I only wish it were longer :-)

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

interesting but weird and horrifying
Revisado: 03-15-19
There were parts of this book I really liked and parts I really hated. I'm happy Tara found herself and escaped that world. I'm horrified that the situation ever happened. Sometimes the writing was quite good but other times I struggled to get through it. I struggled with her struggle to find herself and at some point I just got bored. Some of the story telling is hard to believe, such as the severity of the injuries. How many times can Sean bash his head open? it's hard to believe all of her memories, although I believe it was horrific. But kudos to Tara for finding her way.
Tara's family's take on Mormonism is so schewed that one should basically disregard it's connection to the actual religion, it's like judging all Baptists by the craziness of the Westboro Baptists.

Historia
It all begins with a father telling a story to his son on Christmas Eve. But this isn't your typical Christmas story. The father admits to his son that he's taken a life but he won't say whose - not yet. One week earlier, in a hospital late at night, the man met a five-year-old girl with cancer. She's a smart kid - smart enough to know that she won't beat cancer by drawing with crayons all day, but it seems to make the adults happy, so she keeps doing it.
