It starts with the basic foundations of action. After laying the groundwork of mindset he the creates powerful chapters on creating the right environment and then a number of great tips on how to build the habit of being someone who takes action. There are so many different ideas that it makes it easy to experiment with ideas that will resonate with you. He also makes it clear that you may have to make some hard choices to move forward...but he lays out stories exactly how he had those tough conversations. I like the personal stories that cement concepts. He lays out a good balance but overall there's just a ton of useful ideas crammed into the book. I have both the kindle and audible versions, for me it works great to take in the information in more than one way.

Great stories cement strong principles. Denis has a perfect voice for the narration. I will listen again. Great for listening during walks.

I loved this book. It’s very religious and zero preachy. I honestly believe you could be an atheist and thoroughly enjoy this message. Great stories. Absolutely no judgment only a glimpse into what could be if you do chose. A wonderful use of driving and walking time.

It's easy to see the success and miss the work it took to achieve. But Daymond goes to the heart of the matter. His stories and life story illustrate "the grind." He founded his own business while working at Red Lobster...for FIVE years. He even lays out the math... how much he earned at Red Lobster. How much his business would have had to gross to make the same earnings. He appreciates the skills he learned at Red Lobster while also going over his effort to hold a job and run a business. Total Grind. Great book.

Would you listen to The Obesity Code again? Why?

Yes. I've listened to and read a large number of books on the overall topic. This is the best by a wide margin. First, he lays out the facts. Why are so many people getting so fat? Does the research fit the facts or does the research try to support specific conclusions? What is correlation and what is causation? What is common advice that cannot be supported by any research (i.e., low fat high carb).

Second, he uses the facts to zero in on insulin and cortisol. Cause and effect shown by human studies.

Third, based on one and two, what can you do that actually works. This also covers why so many diets partially work but fail in the long term. He also covers the aspects of different programs that make them fail. Why they go against human nature and cannot be maintained long term.

Forth, he discusses advanced methods for hitting the reset button on your insulin sensitivity.

I had to fix my diet a couple years ago and have found so much of what is covered in the book is true. I've had the benefit of tracking what I eat to my actual blood sugar levels. I was perplexed by "bad carbs" that didn't seem to spike my readings (white rice) while others were spot on (almost all candy creates a long and persistent spike). Dr Fung's overview of what foods do and don't raise insulin is extremely valuable. The impact of artificial sugars was an eye opener (they all cause insulin to jump even though they have no calories).

Who was your favorite character and why?

Facts and Research

Any additional comments?

Get it, listen, take action. You'll have a lot of "aha" moments and "that makes sense".

Ryan constructs a narrative through personal and poignant stories. He's challenging, funny and instructional. Can you take another side? What if you didn't assume you knew?

Before you boldly run into the canal. Stop and ask. Wait, what?

One of my all time favorite audio books

Great introduction to Beethoven. You understand the man, his music and his times. He was a genius. He was horribly unforgiving And he had his own reality distortion field It seems greatness has a duality that keeps cropping up Jobs, Musk and Beethoven. Only an uncompromising commitment to the art is acceptable. Fascinating.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I did. It's a great read with perfect narration by Bray.

Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, this is my first, but he's fantastic.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and I just did.

Any additional comments?

It's technical. It's very realistic feeling. There's great humor but it's consistently gripping. Okay Weir...write something new...and have Bray narrate (in addition to The Egg).
