Never Heard of Pete Holmes- LOVED THE BOOK!
Revisado: 09-24-19
Pete Holmes isn't on my radar. I don't even remember why or when I bought this Audible book.... yet, here I am. I don't even know why I started listening to it a few days ago. Yet, here I am. I loved it so much! SO MUCH! How much? I notoriously listen to audiobooks at 1.5 - 1.75 speed and sometimes, yes, at 2.0. Yet.... I listened to it at regular speed! REGULAR SPEED, so I could really soak up his story, his suggestions, and laugh my way through the book.
I laughed, I ooh'd, I awwwwwed. I loved this book so much. He's a very funny man and I'm definitely going to be looking him up on Youtube!
As for the book..... I loved that I had no idea who Pete Holmes is. Why? Well, because each and everyone of his jokes I didn't see coming. I was delightfully surprised at how much I laughed, all the while relating to his story. I'm an ex Jehovah's Witness who spent my teen years devout in my beliefs. I left in my late twenties, along with leaving my husband of ten years. So much in this book, I could relate to, even though I come from a different religious background than the author. He tells his story with so much honesty and sincerity, mixed along with his humor. It made for a book that I didn't want to stop listening to.
I loved being allowed to come along on his journey, from losing his religion, to his once again finding a spiritual life. He took some really intricate topics on spirituality and made them accessible to me. He used ANALOGIES and explained metaphors. Everything was bite-sized and easy for me to digest. And OH-MY-GOD, I laughed a lot! I'm definitely better off for listening to this book and will be recommending it to my friends.
I've taken a similar path and have recently found myself feeling stagnant. This book gave me some ideas on where I"m going to look next. I'm very grateful that it somehow ended up in my library because it was just what I was needing at the moment!!

Wonderful fun read!

This book was so laugh out loud funny that I would caution you not to operate heavy machinery while you listen. I mean you could seriously go flying off the treadmill in a laughing fit… The narrator did such an awesome job capturing the humor and the spirit of the characters. I would describe this book as fun, light-hearted, and sweet. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Historia
Here's the delightful new novel from Clare Naylor, whose sleeper hit Dog Handling was one of Cosmopolitan's Best Beach Reads for 2002. Fresh and fun, The Goddess Rules is an outrageous, wry, and razor-sharp portrait of a girl who thinks her life is just fine, until she meets a woman who swears by the belief that life is meant to be fabulous.

Great book, so-so narration
Revisado: 01-30-06
This book was sooo funny in spots, but you had to wade through the monotone fog of the narrator’s voice to get to it. Because of the narrators drab dead-pan reading of the characters voices (with the one exception of Mirabelle Moncur- she nailed that one) the book did not grab me at first. However, after a good hour or so I was able to get into it. I became captured by the story and was able to listen past the narrator’s voice and really enjoyed the book.

Historia
The indomitable Amelia Peabody and her husband, known to many as "the Father of Curses", are into archaeology and mischief again. This third in the series brings the reader once more into Egypt and the shady world of black market antiquities. The winter excavation season has hardly yet begun when Amelia stumbles onto what looks suspiciously like a ring of thieves.

Great fun!
Revisado: 12-16-05
I love audio books, but I REALLY love them when a talented author and a talented reader unite. This is the case with the Amelia Peabody Series by Elizabeth Peters while being read by Susan O’Malley. O’Malley does a wonderful job in capturing the humor and excitement of each adventure. For those who are not familiar with this series, what a treat you are in store for! This is a rollicking adventure taking place in between England and Egypt during the Victorian era. This book is one that I play while driving my 13 year old daughter to school. We both love Amelia (a heroine who knows how to yield an umbrella), Emerson (her gruff but devoted husband) and of course Ramses (their precocious little boy). I highly recommend this audio listen. It is great fun!
