Historia
Derek Taylor's iconic memoir is a rare opportunity to be immersed in one of the most whirlwind music sensations in history: Beatlemania. As Time Goes By tells the remarkable story of Taylor's trajectory from humble provincial journalist to loved confidant right at the center of the Beatles' magic circle. In charming, conversational prose, Taylor shares anecdotes and reminiscences so vivid and immediate that you find yourself plunged into the beating heart of 1960s counterculture.

Interesting Prose - First-hand source
Revisado: 03-07-23
The prose style and the book’s format are very untraditional, so I think it was easier to process Taylor’s narrative by having someone read the text aloud to me. Some VERY iconic Beatles and 60’s stories from a first hand reliable, albeit tactful narrator who was there and who was a friend of the Fabs.

Historia
“Lady Hawksworth, your husband is not dead.” With those words, Lara’s life turned upside down. Hunter, Earl of Hawksworth, had been lost at sea. Or so she’d been told. Their unhappy marriage - with its cold caresses and passionless kisses – was over. But now a powerful, virile man stood before her, telling secrets only a husband could know, and vowing she would once again be his wife in every way.

Not a typical Kleypas novel
Revisado: 03-17-20
(Warning—spoilers) I usually love anything Kleypas writes but the heroine in this one is so standoffish! She was no fun and the twist with the hero at the end was creepy to me. Read her Ravenel series or Bow Street Runners series or Wall Flowers series—-all way better than this. Also, generally I like this narrator but she sounded a limitless too dramatic at points..

Historia
Known for its lively, clear prose as well as its scholarly research, Zinn's A People's History is the only volume to tell America's story from the point of view of, and in the words of, its women, factory workers, African Americans, Native Americans, working poor, and immigrant laborers. Here we learn that many of our country's greatest battles (labor laws, women's rights, racial equality) were carried out at the grassroots level, against bloody resistance.

The chapters are out of order
Revisado: 08-20-19
For some reason the chapters are out of order and this ruins it as well as it doesn’t start with the perseverance of the Indians that meet Columbus

Historia
Notorious for her free-spirited antics, Lady Elizabeth Wylder revels in attention - but not the sort that leaves her humiliated when her future husband, the Duke of Hawkesworth, fails to appear for their much-anticipated first introduction. So when a chance encounter leads to a sizzling kiss with a dangerously handsome stranger, she nearly succumbs. The shock of finally meeting her betrothed only to come face to face with her rakish would-be seducer inspires fury - and fans the flames of a fire that both Lizzie and the Duke acknowledge is most agreeable.

Accents were terrible
Revisado: 06-03-19
The story was good but the narrator was terrible. When she was trying to do an English accent, she would slip into a southern accent. She kept pronouncing “mama” like she was doing an Elvis impression. Clearly did not know to emphasize second syllable with English accent.

Very Well Written--Enjoyable
Revisado: 05-21-09
If you like Paris, you'll enjoy listening to this book as some of the events in the story unfold at famous attractions throughout Paris and the descriptions of Paris life in general just really spark the mood to make you want to go to Paris. Tremain's characters are fascinating especially as they are seen through the eyes of the main character,13-year old Louis. Louis is intelligent with a creative mind and because of his age, he is granted a sort of immunity in that he is allowed into the lives of people that might not necessarily allow him access on other circumstances. As a result, Louis actually becomes a fairly competent investigator, something that becomes necessary after Valentina disappears, and espeically since no one else seems to be too concerned by her disappearance. Louis's encounters with Moynelle, Valentina's neighbor, with Violette, the maid, and with Gregory, Valentina's Russian boyfriend/author add much to the story and also Valentina herself is quite an enignma so as Louis gets to know her through is own interactions with her as well as what he learns from others, you come to understand her humanity and his love for her. Also, if a dog can be a character in a story, then Tremain has done it very effectively through Sergei the Irish setter. If you're of a more conservative mind, you might not like this story because it does involve a 13 year old's attraction to a woman in her forties and there is some reciprocity of that attraction. However, since this is a coming of age story, I appreciated the relationship that developed between the two and thought it was a great story.
