Historia
When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that got her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government "rehabilitation camp." She might have survived the mysterious disease that killed most of America's children, but she and the others emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control. Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones.

Growing up is hard
Revisado: 12-20-15
Under normal circumstances growing up is hard. For Ruby, growing up is heartbreaking. In 4th grade kids start getting sick & dying with little explanation. Then it turns out the kids who aren't dying have...telepathic abilities that can be terrifying.
I won't spoil any of the juicier bits for you. Alexandra Bracken writes a good story with engaging characters. I really enjoyed this one.

Absolutely Beautiful
Revisado: 11-05-15
This story is so beautiful, so rich with emotion & conflict and the narrators' performances are so true it made me weep more than once.
All the characters are masterfully written, even the animals. I could read it again and again.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Surprisingly addictive
Revisado: 07-17-15
This was a great read. It reads autobiographical, which is not my preference so it took me a few chapters to get into it, but once other characters came into the mix I was hooked. I won't spoil anything for you. Get ready for a tale of resourcefulness and determination with a side of faith in humanity.

This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

Superb Narration, excellent characters!
Revisado: 03-12-15
I was skeptical about this book. I like Star Wars, but I've never read any of the books before. I am however a huge fan of Kevin Hearne so I thought I would give it a listen.
Thompson's narration was flawless & engaging throughout. I love how he captured the gawky nasal Luke Skywalker that we love from A New Hope. Each characters voice was distinct & recognizable.
The story took a few chapters to get going, and I thought it was quite good, if a bit brief. I felt the Characters ewer well developed & researched & the storyline was as plausible as one can be in a galaxy far far away.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

A beautiful Surprise
Revisado: 12-31-14
I don't typically read historical fiction, especially books that revolve around war, but the reviews if this book intrigued me.
All the Light We Cannot See is a heartbreaking tactile tale of a blind girl at the start of the war and a young boy vacuumed into the war machine & brainwashed into something he was never meant to be.
Doerr artfully & delicately captures the world from the welk to the horrors of war and back again.
