Historia
There is but one aim: the summit, the summit of Mount Everest. What starts with a trouble-free trek into the Nepalese highlands explodes into a gripping tale of hardship, peril, and adversity. Pushed beyond their physical and mental limits, climbers drop by the wayside. Their primal instincts for survival battle with their dogged resolve to drag themselves to the top of the world. But the focus remains: battle to the summit, and if successful, somehow get back down again.

One of the best written and read travelogs ever
Revisado: 01-01-23
I am only in chapter 2 and I had to stop because I am in awe of the quality of the writing And the quality of the narrator I have it on 1.1 speed and it's perfect ...it is cinematic it is like listening to a really well written play... I have read and listened to many Books about adventuring beyond the edge, and I am truly looking forward to the rest of this book, and hope that this writer has other books on his shelf (I don't even know if that's true yet I haven't looked but I had to stop and... I've never done this before... writing a rave review before I've even gotten Any significant depth into the book it self...) it's truly wonderful

Historia
In April of 1846, 21-year-old Sarah Graves, intent on a better future, set out west from Illinois with her new husband, her parents, and eight siblings. Seven months later, after joining a party of pioneers led by George Donner, they reached the Sierra Nevada Mountains as the first heavy snows of the season closed the pass ahead of them. In early December, starving and desperate, Sarah and 14 others set out for California on snowshoes and over the next 32 days endured almost unfathomable hardships and horrors.

Great telling of classic tale of pioneer disaster
Revisado: 08-07-21
The Donner party story is a story of the American pioneer spirit, and how challenging the trek West was, even for tbose who didn't have to face the Donner party's travails which led to its infamous out come. Another great book by author of Boys In The Boat, well read. Highly recommended.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Revisado: 06-10-21
Edward Herrmann narration of this amazing book was equal to the task and God Rest his soul he is no longer with us... but I want to listen to any book that he has read... the only other book of all of the audible books I have ever listened to that approaches this one is The Emerald Mile... also about water and about boats... I can't recommend this book highly enough as well as the Emerald Mile on Audible

Historia
Howards End is a beautifully subtle tale of two very different families brought together by an unusual event. The Schlegels are intellectuals, devotees of art and literature. The Wilcoxes are practical and materialistic, leading lives of "telegrams and anger". When the elder Mrs. Wilcox dies and her family discovers she has left their country home - Howards End - to one of the Schlegel sisters, a crisis between the two families is precipitated that takes years to resolve.

A totally life-changing work of literature, whose admonition to #OnlyConnect can serve us all as the prescription for achieving #happiness.

Historia
In 1914, the war which was to have been wrapped up by Christmas had - in reality - only just begun, as all sides entrenched themselves deeper into the Great War. Christmas Eve, 1914 follows one company of British officers as they rotate forward to spend their Christmas on the front lines, a mere 80 yards from the German guns. Upper- and working-class men and boys are thrown together into one trench and struggle to survive.

Historia
The Turn of the Screw has been described by many critics as the most sophisticated and terrifying ghost story in the English language. It is considered one of the great intellectual "spook tales" of all time. The story concerns a naive young governess who is hired to take care of two children in a large mansion in the English countryside. Everything is going fine, until she discovers that the children are not as innocent as they seem.

Brilliant reading, especially the male first reader, the dramatist in the reader Walter Zimmerman made me want to continue listening, rather than reading... Gave me real appreciation for the film The Innocents, which preceded my reading of the novel

Historia
New York Times reporter and best-selling author John Branch takes listeners to the magnificent red soil and rocky arroyos of southern Utah, where the Wright family of Smith Mesa have for generations raised cattle and world-champion saddle-bronc riders - some call them the most successful rodeo family in history. Filled with vivid scenes of cattle ranching and the high drama of rodeo, The Last Cowboys follows three generations of Wrights through the seasons as they are battered by drought, the falling price of beef, and rodeo's ever-present risks of serious injury.

From one of Outside magazine's "Literary All-Stars" comes the thrilling true tale of the fastest boat ride ever, down the entire length of the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon, during the legendary flood of 1983. In the spring of 1983, massive flooding along the length of the Colorado River confronted a team of engineers at the Glen Canyon Dam with an unprecedented emergency that may have resulted in the most catastrophic dam failure in history.
