Lock needs a clue by four
Revisado: 07-26-24
OMG. What is wrong with the MC. He is fine with working with people but when it comes to basic gathering it feels like he got dropped on his head too many times. He is fine when it comes to fighting and looking defense, but it feels like "ow me ow my" for everything else from food to cleaning to getting back power after losing it . I like the world that is being built but really want a different MC. Want to like the story but on the fence if I will get the next book.

Historia
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

Got me laughing from left field
Revisado: 10-20-23
A different book that got me to laugh out loud from unexpected timing. This is a nice change of pace where you get to see what can happen with the HERO doesn't win and is kept around to amuse the winner.

Historia
The Galactic Consensus arrived on ships as large as skyscrapers, crafted from glittering alloys that no human scientist could even begin to understand. They followed the trail of century-old television transmissions to welcome us into the galactic community...only to recoil in horror at what they found. They concluded that humans were unfit to be trusted with the advanced technologies that member-states of the Consensus freely traded with each other.

overall I liked the story. The first few chapters with the MC and her game partner were tough as I disliked how the story was going. Once the MC was on her own it really started moving forward and i was able to really enjoy the story. can't wait to start on the next book.

A good story idea but...
Revisado: 05-13-22
The story isn't bad, but I did struggle with it.
The world is changed after an alien invasion that destroys a lot of the infrastructure of the planet back in the 2020's. 40 years later we follow a teenager as he is caught in the fight between his family and the over reaching government.
I like the idea of the story and will try the next book but I really struggled with it. A lot of the time it felt like I was reading about the 1950's with how the characters were interacting with the world. The history is covered a little bit felt that more was needed to help fill out the world. Maybe it was the country trying to go back to a simpler time but I don't see the world going away from TV, movies, or the internet of things. Culture changes do to events but I felt more frustrated trying to follow along with how the characters interacted with each other. some of this is cleared up at the end but there is a lot left that isn't.
The book feels like it is setting up the reader for the next books in the series as the teen is being brought into the family secrets. Hopefully the next book fills out more of the world and explains the why of what is going on in the 2060's.

Not bad, but the MC needs a boot in the butt
Revisado: 01-19-21
I like the story overall and how the main characters are playing out in their principles. my issue is with how they are developing. Shaun will bust his balls to increase his body's strength but does little weapon training and almost no mind training. How tough is it to basically spend an hour or so a day cleaning up your mind?

not bad for book 2.
Revisado: 06-18-20
I liked the first part of the book as it felt it completed the beginning of the story. once the MC got off the island the big thing that kept crossing my mind is that this 23 year old man is coming across as a winey high school kid who isn't getting their way. I'm hoping that he grows up once he starts getting used to his new world. have to see how it goes in the next book.

great book, just some small audio problems
Revisado: 02-27-20
I do love this series and think a female voice actor might need to be added with all the female characters in the story. The only error that was a little distracting was the voice audio and tone levels would change for no reason. It doesn't take away from the book, but sometimes it just catches you and pulls you away from the groove of the story.

Historia
The world watches the sky with trepidation. The insanity of Xenocide knew no bounds, and all will soon suffer the effects he had planned for a millennium. Though none know what is to come, they all know it isn't going to be easy to survive. The Master has a plan, one that can give the world at large a way to escape the onrushing desolation. It may be on the bleeding edge of morality and what he needs might prove too difficult to secure, but the Master asks for trust. Cal and Dale both have their role to play as the world hurtles toward destruction.

like some of the voice changes
Revisado: 10-16-19
The new voice actor is good and while I like most of how the voices are done, it seems like a lot of them have a Southern accent. Also while the female characters weren't to bad, and I know it was a change from the other books, the styles depicted were just different enough that it made them feel like totally different people.

Historia
Orcs used to be a fearsome fighting force, and the unleashing of the Horde brought terror to humans, elves, and dwarves time and time again over the centuries. Nowadays, there aren't any more Ultimate Evils, necromancers, or dark wizards left to hire the Horde. Paug Blumpkin is smart for an orc (rather like saying he's smart for a box of hair). He's bored of training with the rest of the Horde for a war that will never come, and he's definitely tired of polishing his helmet. So he decides to set off in search of adventure, bringing along his cheerfully idiotic brother Milph, who has a regular habit of forgetting his pants.
