Historia
In this fascinating foray into the centuries-old relationship between science and military power, acclaimed astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and writer-researcher Avis Lang examine how the methods and tools of astrophysics have been enlisted in the service of war. "The overlap is strong, and the knowledge flows in both directions," say the authors, because astrophysicists and military planners care about many of the same things: multi-spectral detection, ranging, tracking, imaging, high ground, nuclear fusion, and access to space. Tyson and Lang call it a "curiously complicit" alliance.

Takes a long time to get to the point
Revisado: 07-04-21
So FULL DISCLAIMER, I have not yet finished this book. Normally I finish a book in it’s entirety before leaving a review so this particular review may be unfair.
I love Neils books normally but I find that instead of getting to the subject matter that the title describes, it tends to drone on and on just about history; not how history relates to the military, just history. It takes a long time for the author to circle back to the actual topic of the book. Not only that but the book also drones on with an excessive number of lists; lists of places and lists of things that aren’t necessary for discussing the topic of the book.
I am absolutely certain the way this book was written was done so intentionally and with purpose; however, because of these issues I mentioned I couldn’t for the life of my keep my attention or interest on it.
Because I want to learn about the topic of the book I will continue listening, but I just think the book could be much shorter and more interesting/ informative if a lot of it was cut out.

Historia
Tom Bissell is a prizewinning writer who published three widely acclaimed books before the age of 34. He is also an obsessive gamer who has spent untold hours in front of his various video game consoles, playing titles such as Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, BioShock, and Oblivion for, literally, days. If you are reading this copy, the same thing can probably be said of you, or of someone you know.

Was not as expected based on the title
Revisado: 09-03-19
I agree that the subject matter of this book was interesting, but the point of the book was “ why video games matter “ and the author never really wrote about this topic in this book. The author talked about specific games and some criticisms he had on those games, but he did not explain why those games, or games in general, matter; if he did I just didn’t understand the way he chose to explain it. Overall I learned some interesting things about video games but I wish the advertised subject matter was more talked about in this book.
