Historia
When Gwendy Peterson was 12, a stranger named Richard Farris gave her a mysterious box for safekeeping. It offered treats and vintage coins, but it was dangerous. Pushing any of its seven coloured buttons promised death and destruction. Years later, the button box re-entered Gwendy's life. A successful novelist and a rising political star, she was once more forced to deal with the temptations that the box represented - an amazing sense of well-being, balanced by a terrifyingly dark urge towards disaster.

Trash
Revisado: 11-03-22
I only read this because it's the last in the series and I make it a point to read anything with RF in it.
my main problems are:
1. the book starts referring to Gwendy as Gwendoline half way through even though it's explained why that isn't her name.
2. RF is somehow a good guy with good intentions? it's like the author never read the first book (only helped finish it), nor any of SK's other work.
it's terrible and the ending is ridiculously stupid.

Good but a little disappointing
Revisado: 03-16-22
This book isn't bad but it isn't great either. Nothing really happens? It keeps hinting at something cool happening later and then it never happens. As usual it references his other work in a titillating way.

Un"read"able
Revisado: 03-09-22
The narrator is so terrible the book is just not a viable listen. I can't say anything about the story because I can't even get past chapter one. He puts on an awful childish falsetto which is awful and embarrassing. Either have it read by a kid or just read it normally ffs.

Mostly Great
Revisado: 11-18-20
Very enjoyable stories! The only thing is Will Patton's narration. It's mostly fine but I hate, and have always hated, his narration of Holly Gibney. Like why does he make her talk in such a weird cadence? Very off-putting.
Anyway, The Life of Chuck is especially great.

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

This is a great book. I wish it was about her time at the school for longer though.
the narrator is great and does perfectly at the French bits. however her narration for Mr Rochester was extremely unlikeable and made him sound angry even if he was only teasing.
