Not good
Revisado: 11-26-24
Incredibly disappointing. I actually rolled my eyes multiple times. I don’t understand the positive reviews. Lots of child abuse, but that’s not even what makes it bad. It’s just not believable. The ending is so bad. I want my time back.

Delightful
Revisado: 11-06-24
What a delightfully funny and entertaining book. I don’t understand the negative reviews but suspect that those readers confused the genre. This is satire more than murder mystery. The character development is what makes it great. I laughed out loud and was utterly charmed. Highly recommend and can’t wait to dive into book 2.

Cringy
Revisado: 08-13-24
I don’t understand the positive reviews. This is my fourth book by this author (I loved the other three), but this was terrible. The narrator makes it a million times worse. Mia’s lines are like nails on a chalkboard in that weird singsongy baby voice. The characters are one dimensional. There are so many plot holes. I literally cringed multiple times. It did get slightly better half way through, but it was such a disappointment overall. I’m being kind by giving it two stars.

Important, necessary, engrossing and deeply moving.
Revisado: 07-28-24
I don’t normally take the time to write reviews, but I was deeply moved by this work. I was born in 1975 in Europe, so Vietnam was not part of my personal history, and I only had vague ideas about the war gleaned from movies. I had no concept of how veterans were treated on their re-entry, and was completely oblivious to the fact that the women who served were invisible. It is appalling. I have worked in ER’s and have had a taste of the adrenaline and PTSD, but I’ve never had that superimposed by bombs and mass casualties. As a 49-year-old woman I have sometimes had to fight to be respected as much as men for doing the same (or better) job. But I have always been seen. I took so much for granted. I forget that women couldn’t even open checking accounts by themselves just a few years before I was born. This book was deeply moving on so many levels. I felt compassion for the women, the men, the civilians in Vietnam, the families back home, addicts, and the forgotten. This book was so well balanced. It was raw, deep, and I had a sense that it was real. I felt like I was there. I now work with people who have PTSD, and the depictions here are accurate and poignant. This story will stay with me, and I highly recommend it.

Incredibly Blah
Revisado: 06-29-24
I stopped listening to book one about a 1/3 of the way through, but gave it another chance and resumed listening after a friend told me it would get better. It did, and then book 2 was amazing! So when book 3 started off slow, I tried to be patient. But it just never got better. The rich, interesting characters from book 2 became boring and one-dimensional. I felt like she kept writing cliche after cliche in an attempt to pander to what she thought I wanted (as a woman) to hear. But I just kept rolling my eyes. It was almost insulting. And the narration was abysmal! It made the bad writing even worse. I was so invested after book 2, and this was a complete let down. Ugh!

No nonsense, sound advice that is also entertaining
Revisado: 06-07-24
I heard about this book on The School of Greatness podcast and immediately downloaded. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t dry and boring despite the topic. It lays out a very specific action plan that I can’t wait to implement and I now have extreme clarity about what I need to do. I’m actually excited to create a budget, save for an emergency fund, get out of debt, and build retirement wealth rather than doing so grudgingly or with lots of confusion and dread. The plan is simple and doesn’t feel overwhelming. And it’s not gimmicky. It just makes sense. Very grateful and only wish I had started 10 years earlier.

Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story.

Revisado: 06-03-24
Sometimes you just want to be entertained and not have to think too hard, so I went for the rom-com. I was so pleasantly surprised that despite the genre this had utterly relatable characters and you ended up really caring about them. It was funny, quick moving, and had me hooked from the beginning. But it also had a lot of humanity in it and didn't feel like just a lot of fluff. At the end, I almost felt proud of the characters and how much they grew. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
