Louisiana, 1965, and an unlikely, inevitable couple. Sammy Teague and Betsy Duplechain have grown up right next door to each other but in different worlds, with expectations and circumstances that have always kept them separate. Now, as a powerful September hurricane bears down on the Louisiana coast, those worlds will come face to face. The choices they make will send them on an odyssey north and into the fall of 1965, as the brutal and envious sheriff Percy Parris pursues them.

Magnificent!
Revisado: 03-12-22
It has been a very long time since I’ve been so enthralled with a book. Call Your Daughter Home is everything readers hope for when they start a new book. The story immediately grabs the attention, the characters are complexly drawn and the writer expertly weaves the story in and around these rich characters.
The narration is pitch-perfect with not a single misstep anywhere in sight. Everything about this book is perfect. Don’t miss it!

Historia
Brilliantly executed and compulsively listenable, Unsheltered is the story of two families, in two centuries, who live at the corner of Sixth and Plum, as they navigate the challenges of surviving a world in the throes of major cultural shifts. In this mesmerizing story told in alternating chapters, Willa and Thatcher come to realize that though the future is uncertain, even unnerving, shelter can be found in the bonds of kindred - whether family or friends - and in the strength of the human spirit.

So disappointing
Revisado: 11-06-18
I was excited to read this book by one of my favorite authors. My excitement quickly vanished as I slogged through one incredibly boring and preachy chapter after another.
Ms. Kingsolver chose to narrate her own book. It’s hard to think anything could have made this book worse, but her plodding, laborious narration did indeed take the book from boring to unbearable, not to mention the numerous mispronounced words.
The book was a huge disappoint. Make this one a hard pass. You’ll thank me.

The title says it all
Revisado: 10-25-18
This is not an easy book to read. You will either love it or hate it; there is no middle ground here. I loved it. Halfway into the second chapter I was hooked.
Yes, the story made me uncomfortable. There were times when I literally held my breath, hoping that what I knew was about to happen wouldn’t happen. The story was the train wreck I couldn’t look away from. The characters were messy and deeply flawed, their lives were hard and pain-filled, and the injustices and tragedies they suffered were brutal. There’s so much I can’t say without revealing too much and spoiling the story but if you’re looking for a book that will grab you by the throat and not let go, this is that book.

A True Disappointment
Revisado: 10-22-15
The Lifeboat surely ranks as one of the least enjoyable books I have ever read. The story is disjointed and hard to follow and the characters are poorly drawn. The narration is unremarkable. Nothing positive to say about this book. Don't waste your time.

Historia
In Israel, a man clutching a backpack searches desperately for a boat. In Minnesota, Virgil Flowers gets a message from Lucas Davenport: You're about to get a visitor. It's an Israeli cop, and she's tailing a man who's smuggled out an extraordinary relic - a copper scroll revealing startling details about the man known as King Solomon. Wait a minute, laughs Virgil. Is this one of those Da Vinci Code deals? The secret scroll, the blockbuster revelation, the teams of murderous bad guys? Should I be boning up on my Bible verses? He looks at the cop. She's not laughing.

Great Virgil Flowers story!
Revisado: 05-14-14
What did you love best about Storm Front?
I love anything by John Sandford. His Virgil Flowers series hooked me from the first book. Never thought I could warm up to another Sandford character the way I did to Davenport, but I was wrong - Virgil Flowers is almost as fascinating and richly drawn as Lucas Davenport.
