The problem with using fiction writing as political propaganda is that it becomes a very grating and tiresome read. I’ve been eager to finally hear the great Letti come into her own. This story arc is well worth the wait. The problem is that the author couldn’t keep himself out of the story politically. There were several times he glorified criminality such that even the villain took the side of the heroine. There was such great potential to explore the real complexities of illegal border crossings with fentanyl deaths the number one cause of death for males between 18-49, cartel and terrorist infiltration, and the wide variety of organized riots staged by a host of “activists” in the US. To his credit, the author did a great job representing the importance of the 2nd amendment and concealed carry.

I usually don’t write reviews - I love listening to a series from beginning to end so I can see authors develop their writing skills. As others have said the beginning was slow, and pushed the limits of plausible reality. It came around in the end but it was a painful journey. The narrator here was much better than the last book but if it is being commercially produced, the production studio plays a big part in the direction.

As others have said, the story was good enough... Actually, compelling. It was fun to hear about the friction between differeing political parties, both present and past. The narrator did well enough - not as many voices, but well enough. Luke Daniels, however, has been the voice(s) of these characters that we've come to know and love. It is always distracting trying to hear the story while adjusting to the new voice. The one thing that bothered me is how the victim was "forgotten" in a way that made me skeptical about her survival. It did come together in the end...

This story was just lovely! The tension between the protagonists dissolves when the parlor is filled with - well you'll just have to find out! This was a great progression for Heather Graham to make in the beautiful Florida Keyes. And perfectly, the girl "always gets her man!" Again, the perfect blend of mystery and romance laid on the fascinating backdrop of a vital piece of American history.

This story in Krewe of Hunters was one of my favorites! I love the gentle twist of the "Spirits" collaborating with the investigations. This book in particular offered wonderful insight into this historic area of the country as well as what might happen to our loved ones as they transition into the next life. I'm thrilled the author is "predictable" with her overall formula - I don't want shocking surprises. The author blends just enough mystery and romance that always makes me smile.

First, the Gilly character has calmed down and isn't so far over the top as in the past. Second, and not necessarily better (or worse) this book was much darker. I'm glad the author didn't go any further with it. It was plenty. The story arc and resolution was incredibly complicated, well constructed, and creative. My good friend is a medium and I am amazed at how well V. Laurie explains and illustrates the life of a medium. The narrator is doing a much better job, be careful about pops/clicks and keeping character voices consistent and separate from other characters. MUCH BETTER OVERALL!

A "character" "Gilly" completely ruins EVERY story

I've never been so put off by an author's choice than in this series and I LOVE VICTORIA LAURIE! It's just a never-ending farce of tension with the absurdity of this character trashing EVERYTHING. This character is an amalgam of every character flaw and caricature of someone "light on the carpet." I've held my tongue in this series so far, but, one scene (and character - in every scene) in this story(ies) is so ridiculous, immature... I just can't even begin to understand why this character was chosen to be a major role in these books. I would so much rather have a "bad guy" create the "angst" in a story. This story will have great moments of exploration, discovery, mystery, suspense and then just when you are enjoying the story's progress, there is an inane scene with Gilly that interrupts the momentum in the most grating and annoying way. It is so frustrating.

This narrator really struggles getting Victoria Laurie...I wish she had listened to Elizabeth Michaels a little before tackling this one. I hardly EVER write negative reviews... I know how much work goes into these books. I learned about Gillie from one of the Abby Cooper stories... he made NO sense, wasn't funny, really just annoying and interruptive. Maybe it's the acting of this character in these books, but it's just the same. Also, this narrator really struggles keeping the flow going, the pauses around "he said, she said" and the overall slow pace. She does have a terrific aptitude for dialects which is really fun and does improve as the story goes on. Victoria Laurie clearly has an amazing knowledge of all things metaphysical. I'm learning a great deal.

This series just gets better and better. Nothing like an author hooking you in with a sentence describing... From the protagonists point of view, no less... That they were going to DIE this book, continuing with a brief description of what dying feels like! Then of course she switches to, "one week before." The whole book you know the WORST is going to happen... Sigh. The story was just great. Abby Cooper, our intrepid protagonist, explores the depth of fallible humanity. The scene with the nephews in the limo had me busting up laughing! The narrator, Elizabeth Michaels delivers a both riotous and touching performance throughout. Absolutely delightful. Victoria Laurie and Elizabeth Michaels hit it out of the ballpark, again. :-D

Great story! Great narration! What a fun way to help people understand the world of intuition... scarves and crystal balls all excluded! I thoroughly enjoyed the light and dark of Abby's world... especially her hunk of a man, Dutch, and that she uses her talents for good. Can't wait to glutton on the rest of the series!
