Historia
Molly Gray’s life is about to change in ways she could never have imagined. As the esteemed Head Maid and Special Events Manager of the Regency Grand Hotel, two good things are just around the corner—a taping of the hit antiquities TV show Hidden Treasures and, even more exciting, her wedding to Juan Manuel. When Molly brings in some old trinkets to be appraised on the show, one item is revealed to be a rare and coveted artifact worth millions. Molly becomes a rags-to-riches sensation, and a media frenzy swirls as she prepares to sell her priceless treasure.

Book is excellent, Lauren Ambrose’s performance was perfect
Revisado: 04-18-25
I love this series! I enjoyed Molly’s journey and if it had to end I think this was a perfect ending.
In this book we get more of Molly’s Gran’s backstory and the characters change a lot through her telling of the past. I thought it was perfect but I am also one who can accept character change well assuming it is well written- which I think it was. Lauren Ambrose is such an excellent narrator and I think she’s one of the few actors who can take a great book and make it even better through her narration without straying from the page.
I’m so happy I read this, if you loved the other books this one will not disappoint!

Historia
Everyone in Foss Butcher’s village knows what happens when the magic-workers come; they harvest human hearts to use in their spells. That’s just how life in her kingdom works. But Foss, plain, clumsy, and practical as a boot, never expected anyone would want hers. When a sorcerer snags a piece of Foss’s heart without meaning to, she is furious. For once a heart is snagged, the experience is . . . well, unpleasant. So, Foss finds herself stomping toward the grand City to keep his enchanted House and demands that he fixes her before she keels over and dies.

This book could’ve been excellent
Revisado: 04-04-25
Unfortunately the writing of this book seems to have been pulled in two directions. The first half, haunted/enchanted house and Howls Moving Castle vibe, seemed really conflicted with the adventure/action (that’s all I’ll say for sake of not spoiling anything) second half. The second half was all over the place honestly. It started to become redundant and dragged out, especially in the dialogue. I’m so disappointed because I wanted to love this book but it flopped for me. I ended up listening to the last 1.5hr on 1.7x speed so I could move on. 10/10 on the cat character, Cornelius though. He’s the best!

Excellent book, audio quality and editing down from last book
Revisado: 02-28-25
I love this series, this book did not disappoint. I hesitated on buying this one though because the quality of the audio is down from the last book. While I’ve listened to much worse, it was still disappointing. It seems like the editors have been changed or something, because there are less breaks/pauses so it feels like it’s going too fast. There’s also a distinct underwater quality especially at the beginning that should’ve been fixed. I found myself rewinding a lot more than I did with the last two books in the series. Hopefully this will be fixed for the next one!

Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

The narrator is terrible and anxiety inducing for no reason
Revisado: 08-13-24
I really try not to get too hung up on the narrators in audiobooks, but this one was just so bad. I finished the book (loved the story sooo much) but felt like I was missing something, so I decided to get a physical copy and see if it helped. …very eye opening. The book will read “she muttered” but the narrator will do the complete opposite. She makes it so much more angsty than it is! I think she just came up with some sort of formula for how to read it and stuck to it, even if the book calls for a completely different tone. I highly recommend this series, but NOT the audiobook. (Please get a new narrator for the next one!!)

3.5 rating, hard to follow audiobook and detached feeling ending
Revisado: 02-17-24
I’m really bummed that I’m in the minority and didn’t love this book. I was completely convinced I would but the last 2hrs or so felt disjointed to me. The story follows a sort of enchanted path till around the climax of the story and then just drops that path and becomes much darker and much more real life - which would be fine if that was the whole book, but it’s not. The whole story is sad but it also ends very sad. Beautifully written through most though.

This book was excellent. The characters are so well written. Lauren Ambrose gave a perfect performance (again). I may even like this one more than the first, which is really saying something! If you’ve read The Maid, you won’t regret reading The Mystery Guest.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.
