Historia
When Kate Fox receives a late-night phone call, her seemingly perfect life on the Nebraska prairie shatters in an instant. Eldon, shirt-tail relative and owner of one of the largest cattle ranches in Grand County, has been killed. Kate's husband, Ted, the Grand County sheriff, has been shot and may never walk again. And worst of all, Ted is the prime suspect in Eldon’s murder. Desperate to clear Ted's name, Kate throws herself headlong into the hunt for the real killer. When she finds herself the victim of several mysterious “accidents”, she knows she’s running out of time.

Boring!
Revisado: 05-29-24
I only got through a few chapters. I didn’t like the forced twang in the narration, I didn’t really like any of the characters, and there was no humor, no side stories, nothing to keep me going.

Historia
It is 1940 and a tragedy sends Lou and her little brother, Oz, along with their invalid mother, from New York City to the rugged mountains of Southwest Virginia to live with their great-grandmother. The story is told with both heartbreaking elegance and large doses of touching humor as the lives of Lou and Oz are changed forever.

Nice story, boring narrator
Revisado: 02-28-23
This was a nice story that I would recommend to a teenage reader as well as an adult. But I thought the narrator was pretty poor. Everything sounded the same. There weren’t even pauses or changes in tone between scenes and I found myself missing the fact that we had moved on to a new part of the story.

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Last part was good
Revisado: 08-29-22
More than half of the book was very tedious, I thought. I guess I understand the reason for all the back story, but the book was about 2/3 over before I really became interested in what would happen next instead of just looking forward to knowing how it ends.

Have not enjoyed a book this much since Ready Player One
Revisado: 08-15-22
The story line and humor were fantastic and the narrator did such an outstanding job that I can’t even describe it. The book started out as a 5, Ray Porter made it into a 10.

Story pretty good, narration not so good
Revisado: 03-12-21
I enjoyed the story well enough although it took awhile to get it established. But I found the narration really distracting. The narrator didn’t do well with all the accents and sounded like somebody just reading a book aloud. On top of that, I thought the editing was poor because there was no gap at all between sections of the book. The narration would be talking about one set of characters and then suddenly talking about something completely different, and I’m sure in the printed book there was some kind of section break.

Henry, novelist and former 'angry young man' turned grumpy old reactionary, decides to fight the will and prove their father was insane. Younger brother Fred, a mild-mannered country doctor, takes a different approach, quietly digging in Simeon's past, only to uncover an entirely unexpected explanation for the legacy.

Too little plot
Revisado: 11-13-20
In my opinion, the amount of plot was too small for the length of the book. I kept thinking something exciting might develop or be revealed, but when it was all over it definitely wasn't worth listening to for almost 13 hours. Maybe if one or two of the characters were endearing it would have helped, but I didn't really care that much about any of them.

She’s stoic about it, but at this point, Ellen wouldn’t mind a lasting one. When she meets Patrick, she’s optimistic. He’s attractive, single, employed, and best of all, he seems to like her back. Then comes that dreaded moment: He thinks they should have a talk. Braced for the worst, Ellen is pleasantly surprised.

Totally enjoyable to listen to!
Revisado: 03-09-19
I loved the narrator! I was disappointed that there are only 3 other books she has narrated. She did a wonderful job conveying Liane Moriarty's sense of humor. The story was not what I would call gripping, but I enjoyed it all the way through and never found myself thinking it was dragging. It was thoroughly entertaining and I loved the characters.

The movie was better
Revisado: 01-10-19
After seeing the movie, I was excited to find the audiobook. Usually the books are much better of course with the movie just being a stripped down version. But in this case I felt like the book never knew whether to be humorous or serious. It seem like the book was really long and I was waiting for the more complicated stories to develop, and then all of a sudden the book was over. This is one case where the simplified movie made for a much better story.

Favorite Audio Book Ever!!
Revisado: 04-12-17
OK, back in my 20s I spent many a summer evening at our local outdoor penny arcade, playing video games. My all-time favorite was Robotron. Plus I'm a software engineer. So this was a perfect novel for me to fall in love with. But you don't have to be a geek to understand or appreciate it. The story is very well crafted and the premise of what the world has evolved to is spot-on, I think. This is one of those stories that I think really could happen. Great action, great characters, great ending. You should try it!!
