Historia
Those on the side of progressing humanity through advanced technology have finally triumphed over their oppressors. The unholy war between the small but mighty island realm of Charis and the radical, luddite Church of God's Awaiting has come to an end. However, even though a provisional veil of peace has fallen over human colonies, the quiet will not last. For Safehold is a broken world, and as international alliances shift and Charis charges on with its precarious mission of global industrialization, the shifting plates of the new world order are bound to clash.

Safehold series ended with Book 9!
Revisado: 04-10-25
I really enjoyed the Safehold series books 1 - 9 and wish I'd have saved a credit instead of buying this book. My expectation was that the bulk of the book would cover the ticking time bomb "What happens in year 900?"
Spoiler alert:
I'm 29 hours into the book and it's been nothing but your favorite characters having babies, getting married, some passing away, weddings, funerals etc.. There's a bit of time spent on new inovations and a ton of time on the Harchong empires struggle against the serfs.
I gave the performance a mediocre rating because AGAIN, just like most of the previous 9 books, character voices and accents change. How difficult is it for the readers to keep Nahrmahn's accent Scottish?

Narrator was so poor I Couldn't Follow the Story
Revisado: 04-09-16
What would have made House of Chains better?
They should have kept Ralph Lister as the narrator. The first three books were incredible on audio.
Michael Page does have a great voice, unfortunately every single character, male and female, sound the roughly the same. The Malazan books have so many characters that each having their own uniq voice is critical.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
I honestly can't say as I wasn't able to follow much of the book so the ending was full of gaps.
Would you be willing to try another one of Michael Page’s performances?
No, especially not a series as complex as the Malazon series.
Any additional comments?
I really wish I could justify getting the remainder of the series on Audible, but I can't with Michael Page as the reader. I guess I'll get the Kindle versions at some point when I have time to read such lengthy books.
Really really disappointed!
