Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Innovative story BUT author sex scene awful
Revisado: 09-27-23
I enjoyed the story for the most part and would have rated it higher except for the sex when the two main characters finally got together. The lust was overdone, and the sex was about as sexy as a visit to the gynecologist. I couldn't even listen as it went on and on in excruciating detail, until I hit the fast forward. But it would have been nice to listen to a great sexual encounter as it was almost the point of the entire story.

Narrator drove me nuts
Revisado: 06-20-23
I lived in Arizona and we never pronounced Guadalupe as the narrator did. We said "gwah dah loo peh" so I cringed every time I heard it even though I read on Google that narrator's version is an acceptable pronunciation in Texas. The story had a good premise, but I felt the number of characters and suspects for the crime were confusing and hard to track.

Imagination OK but writing is terrible
Revisado: 01-27-23
I n the first several books the author claimed the three young women were squealing so often that it was hard to determine whether she was writing about humans or barnyard animals. Teen characters serving alcohol is a problem because it is not legal .and any author should be aware of that fact. Now and then a story line or character is introduced and then dropped with no explanation. I thought the setting and plot were interesting, but the writing was distracting.
Narrator read with a distracting huff or hiss which she dropped in later books which made listening easier, but is was too late to save her narration.

Historia
When Aurelie Harcourt's father dies in debtor's prison, he leaves her just two things: his wealthy family, whom she has never met, and his famous pen name, Nathaniel Droll. Her new family greets her with apathy and even resentment. Only the quiet houseguest, Silas Rotherham, welcomes her company. When Aurelie decides to complete her father's unfinished serial novel, she must keep her identity as Nathaniel Droll hidden while searching for the truth about her mother's disappearance - and perhaps even her father's death.

Too much murder and two few historical details
Revisado: 07-11-22
Until now, I have enjoyed this series. This book spends entirely too much time on a mass killer. Don't read this if your goal is to escape the mass murder of our time and visit a happier time in our history. One bloody and senseless murder after another is described in great detail in this volume.

I thought I was choosing a mystery. I cannot identify with a woman who is so self involved. I returned the book after the first few chapters.

blood and guts
Revisado: 06-18-21
The story started out with a very witty and humorous rendition of the structure and dynamics in high school social gangs. But, the book devolved into a chase and fight story with loving attention paid to smell of rotting flesh, blood, wounds, and cannibals. It just went too far for my taste.

The morning of her niece's wedding, Margo Just drinks a double martini and contemplates the many mistakes she's made in her fifty-odd years of life. Spending three decades in love with a wonderful but unattainable man is pretty high up on her list of missteps, as is a long line of unsuccessful love affairs accompanied by a seemingly endless supply of delicious cocktails.
