Historia
Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She has a good job as a defense attorney, a daughter doing well in school, and even her divorce is relatively civilized - her life is just as unremarkable as she’d always hoped it would be. But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood that was far from average...a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and finally torn apart by a devastating act of violence.

Great stand alone book!
Revisado: 12-18-21
I bought this on sale while waiting on my credit to renew. The book didn't disappoint. I
enjoy all of Slaughter's books...she manages to create realistic characters and truth be told I quite enjoy her graphic writing style. There were a few scenes in this book that had even me cringe and twitch - I had to switch to Xmas music for a bit lol.
I noticed at least one review complained that masks were being shoved down the readers throat from the get go. I disagree with that. Yea, the book is taking place during the pandemic and yes, masks are mentioned. That's all.
It's a great story involving a psycho killer and drug addiction (again some of the parts about drug use are not for the faint hearted). The pandemic is also happening but not the focus of the story.

Historia
There’s no police training stronger than a cop’s instinct. Faith Mitchell’s mother isn’t answering her phone. Her front door is open. There’s a bloodstain above the knob. Her infant daughter is hidden in a shed behind the house. All that the Georgia Bureau of Investigations taught Faith Mitchell goes out the window when she charges into her mother’s house, gun drawn. She sees a man dead in the laundry room. She sees a hostage situation in the bedroom. What she doesn’t see is her mother....

Love Will Trent
Revisado: 11-18-21
I really love Karen's writing style. It's very intricate and no matter how carefully I think I listen...she always manages to surprise me. she pays great attention to police work - it's a slow process not involving magic gadgets. Her characters do it the old fashioned, right way. I've come to absolutely love Will! All the characters have depths but Will is the most intricate one.

Historia
A. J. Albany's recollection of life with her father, the great jazz pianist Joe Albany, is the story of one girl's unsentimental education. Joe played with the likes of Charles Mingus, Lester Young, and Charlie Parker, but between gigs he slipped into drug-induced obscurity. It was during these times that his daughter knew him best. After her mother disappeared, six-year-old Amy Jo and her charming, troubled father set up housekeeping in a seamy Hollywood hotel.

Sad, honest, fascinating
Revisado: 05-21-15
I have to be honest, I only got this book because of Lena Headey. Didn't even know who Joe Albany was! I do now, thanks to this book. Utterly fascinating, a story of drugs, addiction, depression and hope. If you like that type of stuff, do yourself a favor and read Low Down. I already know it's a book I'm going to reread and am thinking about picking up a hard copy of it too. The only drawback to having a celebrity reader - I had to keep reminding myself it wasn't Lena's story!

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Good story
Revisado: 05-21-15
Gripping, it really draws you in if you like a bit of sadness. Couldn't wait to get in the car to listen. It's very similar to Gone Girl in the way it's set up. The narration is fantastic. I found myself really caring about the characters. Lots of twists and turns but the end result isn't really that surprising. Yet I was sad when it ended.

Loved it
Revisado: 02-24-15
I want sure at first of I'd like it. It took me a few "pages" to get into it but then I loved it. Couldn't wait to get back to it. The characters are vivid and I really cared about them. The story is interesting and moves along very well. I like period pieces anyway but this book made me want to time travel to London in the 1870's! It was well read too, pleasant voice and easy to tell the characters apart.

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Historia
This classic tale is a fantastical fable of two dear friends - one of whom goes astray and is literally lost to the north woods, while the other undertakes an epic journey to rescue him. This charming, strange, and wonderful story is a timeless allegory about growing up and the challenges of staying true to one's self, and it served as the wintry inspiration for the blockbuster hit Frozen.
